Using old hard drive in different computer

I need some help with a hard drive install. I have a wd raptor sata hard drive that I used in an older windows xp computer. The motherboard went bad in the older computer so I got a different computer. The new computer has windows xp installed on it an d already has data on it I would like to also have. I would like to install the wd raptor from my old computer into this new computer without reformatting both drives and take advantage of the faster 10k rpms of the raptor compared to the 7200 rpms of the new hard drive. What should I do in this situation? I tried just hooking up both hard drives and the computer does not boot.
