I have the Realtek On board audio as well as the X-Fi Extreme Music soundcard. Can I use both sources and have them play sound at the same time?

Yes you can.

I did this with my X-Fi and my Realtek for a while.

My X-Fi has only one input and I was using it for microphone on my headset for Teamspeak with gaming.

I needed another one for my TV tuner card.

So, I put my mic on my Realtek since I don't need my mic to play back thru my speakers and put my TV tuners input on my X-Fi since that is where my speakers were plugged in.

I need it for similar reasons as posted above. I need to plug in my headphones somewhere...however, win xp and vista both seem to default to one sound device as the default and mutes the outputs from the other..any work around?

you can usualy set the soundcard you want your program to use under its options. Try that.

If it doesn't have, then try the sound options in the control panel of windows and choose (after you have installed drivers and software for both soundcards) which soundcard will be responsible for recording, and which for playback etc.

If it is not under options it should be in one of the ini files of this software that you might edit manually. But a jack splitter is much easier solution.
