USB/HDMI ro Cat5/6

I'm not sure if this is the correct subforum for this question, but here it goes anyway. I'd like to move my desktop to the basement below my "office." This would be around 50ft.

I was curious if anyone knows of something that I could use to transmit it all over cat 5/6. I know they make USB to cat 5 and HDMI to cat 5, but is there a single piece of hardware that will do HDMI and USB to cat 5, then cat 5 back to USB and HDMI on the other end?

I've seen one or two things, but they ranged between 500-1000 dollars which is way over my budget.

My other concern is latency. I play a lot of games on the system, so I would need it to be responsive.
 
Have you considered having a really small PC that you can remote connect to the one in the basement with?
 
I've seen USB/ethernet boxes and I'm sure there are HDMI ones (although you might not need specialized hardware for HDMI, just more expensive cables), but it sound like more of a hassle than it's worth, is this basement like two floors down from your office or something? Why do you need the PC down there while you game?

Surely any game would drown out a little bit of fan noise... I've seen plenty of Hard members relocate rigs outside, or into closets, or even into specialized cooling compartments; but I don't recall any across that large a distance... A little context is necessary here, what are you trying to accomplish?

Basically it turns the room into a sauna. The room is small and 2 670s in sli put out some heat. It has no problem raising the rooms ambient temp 10-15 degrees.

The basent is directly below the room.
 
Can you pull new cables? If so, just drop a 50' HDMI cable (or three) to the basement (with an extender/equalizer, if necessary) and get a couple USB2 over cat5 dongles.

I'll probably do this. I was hoping to find all of this in one box, ran through 1 cat 5 cable, to a second box at other end

Never happen. Best case would be two cat5(/6) cables -- one for USB2 over UTP, one for HDbase-T. Thing is, an HDbase-T transceiver set runs $200-$600, whereas a 50ft run of HDMI is ~$50 at Monoprice, and an active equalizer is ~$15. For the price of a single run with even the most feature-minimal HDbase-T setup, you could drop enough cables for a triple-head setup and a couple USB2 lines.

On the other hand, there is a certain appeal to a bundle of generic cat6 that might be worth the extra
 
How is it 50 feet if it's directly below? Sorry just having trouble visualizing, I agree cat 5 for USB + HDMI is your best bet...

Well I may have over estimated a little. It's not a straight drop down. I'd need to run from my desk to a box in the wall which isn't directly behind the monitor. Then from there down the wall to another box in my finished basement. Then from that wall out, over and down to where I could plug in the pc.

I'm not planning on drilling a hole in the floor and putting a stand up directly below.
