usb fan?

i was thinking about wiring a fan in to usb.
cut one end of the cable and splice it in.
would the usb provide enough power? i dont want it fast, just enough to move enough air to cool my hand. or my friggin router that i think is overheating
just plug in to 5v and gnd...
i wanna ask someone cuz i hate to fry my usb port tomorrow when i give it a try

You can't fry your usb port by plugging a fan in to it. See the problem is fans run at 12V and the USB only has 5V thats just to low. You can use a firewire port those have a 12V line.

Made one of these last year in my tech class with a 5v fan, they work just fine though they cant spin very fast.

I bought a USB clip fan at Target for $1 on clearance. works well enough.
