usb fan?

i was thinking about wiring a fan in to usb.
cut one end of the cable and splice it in.
would the usb provide enough power? i dont want it fast, just enough to move enough air to cool my hand. or my friggin router that i think is overheating
just plug in to 5v and gnd...
i wanna ask someone cuz i hate to fry my usb port tomorrow when i give it a try
 
You can't fry your usb port by plugging a fan in to it. See the problem is fans run at 12V and the USB only has 5V thats just to low. You can use a firewire port those have a 12V line.

13 bucks aint too bad, but free is better :D

Made one of these last year in my tech class with a 5v fan, they work just fine though they cant spin very fast.
 
ok i got it goin with a 12v fan
and man does it spin slow....
im thinking bout tieing 2 usb together..just cuz i can :)
