UPS question

This is a very stupid question... but the "UPS suggestions" thread got me thinking.

If I had two UPS's could I say hook them up in serial like this:

'Outlet'<->[UPS]<->[UPS]<->{Computer}

Would that effectively "double" my battery time or is it just stupid and/or would fry something?

If you are concerned about run time, I used to do this (moved and the power is better so I havent done it in a few years, so I am not up on the newer UPS worked fine with older APC's)

I allways made sure when I shopped for a UPS I could get to the battery connections of the UPS I would then rig up some leads to bring the battery connections out of the UPS case and hook up a car battery sitting in a battery box (sporting goods or auto parts store). I spliced in a 10A inline fuse on the hot lead. For a while I just every 3 years bought a new car battery and used the old one that still had good life on the UPS. A deep cycle trolling motor battery would be perfect.

Anywho, I could run the machine for couple of hours easy,

No it won't double your runtime. The second UPS will switch to battery as well when the first one does. This is a bad idea.

If you want longer battery time get a larger UPS or a unit with expandable battery options.
