I recently bought an XPS 420 Desktop. Q6600, 4G DDR3, 9800GT,22" Dell S220WP for 250$( I KNOW, ITS A STEAL! :DDD).

Ive been playing games on the 9800GT and I just dont think its poweful enough to run the games I want to play. Ive been thinking of upgrading it, but the PSU that came with my XPS tower is only 375 Watts. The weird thing is that the 9800GT has a recommended power rating of atleast 400W. If I were to upgrade to a better GFX card, which one would you guys recommend? I was thinking about the 4890 or 260GTX. Thanks in advance!
 
Definitely not the GTX 260 or HD 4890. But the HD 5770 would work just fine.
 
Yeah 3rd vote for the 5770. Low power consumption. Perfect card for 1680x1050 as well. It will run of the Dell PSU as well
 
lol. The monitor is actually 1900x1080. How fast is it compared to the 4890 and 260gtx?
 
4890 is slightly faster in most cases but uses more power.

260 gtx is roughly equivalent in most benches that I've seen, but I'm not sure about the TDP.
 
I would not recommend the 260, while the xps 420 is a nice system the PSU might not be able to handle that much power output. The 5770 would be a good call.
 
9800 GT has a higher TDP then the 260, so it's odd you have that PSU with a q6600 cpu I would imagine your running that PSU right at the edge, which is not recommended.

I would recommend that you get a new power supply along with your new card.
 
I think I will most likely will choose the 5770 because it prevents me from changing my psu and is nearly as fast as the 260gtx.

This^^^
There is no way a 5850 will run off your Dell PSU, should be fine with the 5770
