wondering if it is possible to upgrade the graphics card on the G72GX

its got a 260M in it now but i want to know if it can handle anything higher.

Can anyone help me out here?

Thank you in advance

If the G72 is anything like the G51/G60/G71 etc, then no. The GTX260M is soldered onto the motherboard.

If the card is soldered on, you will have to replace the mainboard to get an upgrade. Most of the time it's not worth the cost of a new board though.....

TBH, get a new gaming laptop. Cooling has been better than ever on gaming laptops. I know for a fact G50/51's can be used as a heater.

ill have to take the back piece off and see if its a slot or soldered on.

now if its a slot what would be my limits. its a core 2 duo so i dont think i could go too much higher.

and thank you for the replies

The way it use to work you could only upgrade one generation. So whatever the next gpu was after the 260m is probably as high as you can go. Might be better to just invest in a new laptop that has at least a 560m in it. Now that newer units are coming out a 560m unit can be had for under $1000.

yeah so i ended up selling the G72 and now own a G75vw bbk5.

Sweet laptop thats for sure. thank you for all the help.
