Upgrading my 4850?

Well i've been away from my pc for almost a year now, so i have no idea where does my pc setup stands in the midst of new games coming out..

E2180 3.2ghz
4gb ram
ATI 4850 512mb


If you were me, what would you be looking to upgrade for more gaming performance? Is the upgrade to 5000 series worth it? :eek:

What resolution are you playing at?
What's your budget for this upgrade?

used to be playing footballmanager, crysis, cod, grid.. Looking forward to the sequals to mass effect, assassin creed, bioshock, cod modern warfare2 ...

How old is it?

A graphics card upgrade would work but it would be limited a bit by your current CPU.
 
dump CPU, get a cheap used Q6600 for 100-130, dump video card, get a 5770
 
I'd recommend another 4850 and do some crossfire...If you're limited to one PCI-E port on your board then a 5830 if you can find one for $200 or less. If that's too much for you try a 5770, I've been shocked at how much performance those little cards can push. If you wanna do a CPU upgrade, I have a Q8300 I'd be willing to sell, PM me if your interested.
 
Definately dump that cpu for a quad core (Q6600, 8xxx, 9xxx), and xfire another 4850 if you can.

If not, sell the proc + 4850 and get a newer gen card. You can get about $70 on ebay for your video card.
 
I think you're better off with a new CPU first and a new GPU second. The 4850 is still pretty capable depending on your settings. I have one on a 16x10 panel and it runs all my games at medium-high settings just fine.
 
Another vote for CPU upgrade. You can easily find a used one on the FS forum for cheap. Like others have said, I would aim for a quad core or a high end dual core (E8400 or better).
 
I wouldn't invest in another 4850 512mb. You really want 1GB of video memory to get the most out of current games like Mass Effect 2, etc. I'd say that a 5850 should handily max out that resolution. Your CPU seems a bit week though and could use an upgrade to a quadcore.
