Hey there my computer feels like it's getting long in the tooth right now notable games are,Warhammer age of reckoning.stalker clear sky,and the new sacred 2 demo.

Was thinking it was games not being optimized but starting to get stutters and such in all of em.

c2d e6300
gigabyte p965 s3 rev 1
3 gigs corsair xms 3200 ddr2 ram
evga 8800gts 320MB card
western digital 320 GB 8 mb cache harddrive

So am I right in thinking that a beefier and overclocked CPU will get me some smoother results...a lot of newer games seem to be getting my CPU process in the 65-99% quite a bit of the game play .And if so what dual or quad core in the $200 bracket Intel wise for my motherboard can you suggest?

Sorry for length but thank you for any help and your time!!!

Don't waste your money on a new CPU if your main interest is gaming. A well overclocked E6300 is fine for gaming.

Are you using 3x1GB sticks of memory? If so then it isn't running in dual channel and you're killing memory performance.

An investment in a faster graphics card is usually your best option to smooth out gaming performance but what you have isn't too bad at all.

Make sure you don't have a bunch of crap running in the background on your system. 0% CPU usage is a good number to shoot for at idle.

What resolution do you run your game? It could be just your Graphics card if it is somewhat high resolution. I gave my brother E6300 and OCed it to 3Ghz. Once you hit around that clock, it really shouldn't make big difference as far as gaming goes(unless of course if game is optimized for quad core). Sure there will be difference but not that much to warrant new CPU unless you are hardcore gamer.

I'm running 1280x1024 in all my games and yeah need another stick of memory def.I keep my system running clean at all times reformatted for just purpose of finding the problem right now .

So oc the 6300 to 3gz gonna give a lil more headroom and both dual mem channels thats gonna make a decent difference right now?

also warhead played not too great either so all this started the optimize my poor comp tour lol.

Thanks for the advice and a stick of memory and new heatsink/fan will be much cheaper if you think it's worth the difference?

Overclock your cpu to 3Ghz and you'll be ready to go.

it should be lot better if you were running E6300 @ stock speed and had 3x1GB. It made noticeble difference from 1.86Ghz to 3Ghz as far as gaming but not much FPS increase from that to anything higher. I think some gave maybe 5fps increase(it's been like yr or so) but for extra vcore and heat that it needed/generated, 3Ghz was sweet spot. Gaming at 1280x1024, even with your card it shouldn't be much issue cause you aren't running hi res. Running 3x1GB would have made big difference too as it wasn't running dual channel. OC your CPU to 3Ghz(there should be a guide in OC section) and set ram to dual and see how it does. Also be careful with OC. It's all on you if something goes wrong but if you follow guide, you should be OK. That guide is how I started my first OC which I'm running my Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz. And as always, YMMV on OC. :)

I think S1283 is like $20 AR at CC now. Great heatsink :) got same one but mine is Red Scorpion. It's same thing as S1283 just different fan and nickle plated heatepipe

Nice thanks for help on which way to go ...all else fails and am not happy will be a decentsetup for gf's new comp.

Thanks again all!

Yeah the hardrive is a WD 320GB 8mb cache one when they started coming that high forgot the model type so i'm sure a nice new 16mb cache newer platter type model would help performance too.

Thanks again for great advice and time to oc this poor stock cpu =P

(Warhammer elder)

OC that CPU on your existing hardware to about 2.8 (400x7) would be ideal, you will need an Artric freezer 7 pro for about $30 and glue a 40mm fan to the MCH/Northbridge HS.

I am likely too late, but go for the video card first. I just went from a highly OCed 6300 (3.3GHz) and 2 GB to a Q6600 and 4GB. The game uses large texture maps and I have to set stuff to balanced or fastest framerate for RvR or to kill minor "hitches". While I am very happy with the Q6600 and extra memory (I have vent and a browser open when I play and task switching is instant) game play was not really improved.

What I am saying is that instead of going for the quad ( I just could not resist I have always wanted one, I needed the 6300 for another machine, long story...) I should have upgraded the video card. Now I still need to do that.

1280x1024

Dude seriously, I refused to get a LCD for years and just got a Hans G 22inch LCD at 1650 x 1200 just for warhammer for $179 at newegg free shipping - wait for a sale. I still say my CRT is sharper but my lord the wide screen more than makes up for it and the warhammer UI is made for a wide screen, its 100% better and less cluttered. I use the crt as a second monitor on the same video card for vent and a browser.. Go with the video card and then the LCD and you will not beleive how much more you will enjoy the game, Your cpu (with a OC) and memory are sufficient its the video that killing you, at least in war. (DAOC is fine). Defrag the existing HD after every patch of any size and it will be fine and an upgrade can wait.

0- OC you existing cpu
1- Video Card
2 - widescreen LCD
3 - memory
4 - new cpu
5 - HD

Just my 2 cents but I just walked a mile in your shoes.

Gehimmon - Red Eye Mountain.
Adrie - Tristan

PS look for warhammer UI addons. autoloot is an excellent one.

Wow thanks for the in depth personal exp with upgrades and great advice.

Yeah the cooler for oc and video card are on my agenda, ram in there somewhere =)).
