Upgrading Current Rig

I'm looking to upgrade my current rig. I'd like to know what you guys think I should do with my scenarios I have listed below

with this board I'm currently running a pII 955 OC'd to 3.9ghz 8gigs of ddr3 1333 RAM and ATI xfx 6870

My main thing is gaming (RIFT, SC2, Darksiders, Civ5) I play at 1920x1080 (at work I only run 1440x900 on a 19inch) and would like to crank up the eye candy as much as possible and have the best video/gaming I can.

What should I do;

keep current set up and get a 6950

get new mobo for CF and get another 6870

upgrade cpu to a 1090T and keep other components

Anything I buy for this upgrade will just be purchased with my friends parts for the pc we are building and I will just give him the part I'm replacing out of my pc. He is allowing me to do this instead of paying me for putting together his pc. So I'm basically getting a free upgrade from my part.

get a HD6950 and unlocking it will be the quickest and most surefire way to boost FPS at 1920x1080 res. You'll se no gains in CPU heavy games in a Thuban chip.

What PSU do you have? It would be a bad idea to upgrade to the HD 6950 if the PSU is a poor one.

Yes I still have the corsair hx620 power supply. It sounds like the 6950 is the best bet then, and then I might look into getting some type of aftermarket cooling for the gpu since I will most likely be unlocking and OCing it.

I like the Arctic Cooling Accelero XTREME Plus with the VR001 VRAM heat sink accessory kit.

be mindful of which card maker you choose because, adding an aftermarket cooler will void the warranty.

Thanks for that tip, I didnt even think about that. I like the XFX lifetime warranty, but I'm almost positive the warranty will be voided if you remove the cooler. I remember a sticker being on my xfx 6870
