Hey guys, I've been out of the loop for a while regarding computer parts, but I think my rig is in need of an upgrade so I figured this would be the best place to come.I'm not a 100% sure on what parts I want, but that's only because I have some questions about the new stuff that's come out since I've looked into computer hardware.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Mainly gaming, but not too intensive, just the best I can get for the money.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
like $400-600 including tax and shipping
3) Where do you live?
New Jersey(Paying tax form newegg sucks)
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
I need a new Motherboard, Processor, RAM, and a new HD. I currently have an EVGA 8800GT 512MB DDR3 Videocard so I don't think I have to upgrade it, but tell me what you guys think.I don't know how good it still is.
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
I'll be reusing my Antec 900 Case and my 250 GB Western Digital SATA II HD. My power supply is an Antec Earthwatts 550 Watt, I plan on reusing it. Possibly my graphics card depending on the feedback from you guys.
6) Will you be overclocking?
Nope
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
17 inch lcd
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Whenever I can get the part list finalized along with the budget
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
I guess USB 3.0 and Sata 3 would be nice. I would like one that's somewhat future proof.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?
I currently have a copy of Windows XP Pro SP 2 OEM that 's 32 bit and legit. I can always get a copy of pretty much any Windows OS I need later, consider that outside of my budget.
Oh and I have some questions for you guys too.
1) How is the E8400 vs the new core i3/i5/i7 models? From what I've looked at the E8400 seems to be better for gaming at the mid level price range.
2) How does AMDs new line of 6 core processors hold up to intel's line up?
3) I know 64 bit OSes have been out for a while, but are they still problem filled like they used to be? Regarding compatibility, program availability (especially games), etc.
4) Can I use a SATA II HD on a SATA III MB?
