Current system is in sig. I mainly want this rig for BF:BC2 and other new/soon coming titles like Bioshock, ME2, Starcraft 2. I want to achieve the highest possible settings within my budget. I am not too worried about "futureproofing" as I usually buy a new rig every 2 yrs from scratch. I was thinking going i7 because of having a Microcenter about an hour away.

I also have a couple questions:
1) I am in no rush to upgrade, but I noticed I am starting to lose some preformance with newer games, been playing BF:BC2. Might it be worth it just to get a new videocard and upgrade the rest in a month (by march)?
2) I am no audiophile but is there any advantage in using my soundcard (x-fi xtreme music) vs. onboard?

1) Upgrade the video card first. Your current CPU is fast enough for most games. A new video card upgrade would be a good idea.
2) No real performance increases.

To run games at high, mainly BF:BC2, how would the 5850 and the 5770 compare? Is there anything coming out in Feb. that may be worth the wait?

Yeah. ATI Radeon HD 5830 is scheduled to come out on Feb 5. Most likely the price won't be $200 like the Radeon HD 4890. It will likely be priced at $239.99
