I currently have an amd athlon xp clocked at about 1.85 Ghz with a 6800 GS clocked at 420 for the core and 1000 for the memory

I was thinking of upgrading my cpu to an Core 2 E6300 with that Asrock motherboard that let you use DDR ram and has an AGP slot so I can still use my 6800 GS

would I get a noticable improvement in performance with this upgrade?

Thanks

You sure will.

But one has to ponder if not just ditching the video card as well and getting a complete modern setup would be better in the long run. That is only a question you can answer for yourself.

well i have to balance paying for this upgrade and tuition every four months :p

another note, i noticed when comparing 3dmark 2005 scores, i currently score about 4900 with my current system, but other scores with the system i want to upgrade to only score about 5900. Is this normal. I know i should just disregard 3dmark, but i'm just curious

Think about it, you aren't upgrading your video card or ram, so those points are coming solely from the cpu.

i was just hoping the cpu upgrade would get a bit more than what has been reported
