Hey all,

I've just ordered my new case and PSU, now I'm going to start looking @ mobos, cpus, and RAM.

Right now I have an AMD +2100, 512 2100 DDR, and a 9800Pro.

I'm planning on getting the 3200 Venice, some good RAM, but in terms of the vid card, which I don't care to upgrade, what mobo should I get?

I'd like to be able to use my current AGP card, AND later have PCIe.... What can I do?

What it REALLY comes down to is how long will AGP stay around for. Should I just shell out for another card? And if so, I guess that would change the mobo variable, since I might be then looking into SLI.

This is busting my balls.

To my knowledge, that's not possible. You've either got PCI-E or AGP - socket 754 or 939. If you're serious about your upgrade, scrap your 9800Pro (I got $100 for mine) and aim at a socket 939 cpu with a PCI-E motherboard.

I believe 2005 calls for the end of AGP.
 
With respects to that ... though as a 'spec' AGP may be in it's last legs- it's just as fast as PCIe, and with the new gen cards out now expect the 6800 Ultra to drop to 6800GT prices or lower, andthe 6800GT to be close to 6600GT prices. Essentially what will happen is an increadible boon to S754 A64 users with AGP because of the fact that new gen is moving way too fast. Now AGP folk will be getting a very nice 6800 ultra for very good pricing .. and get SM 3.0 support to boot. Consider that the 6800 Ultra will run anything out there period at nice resolutions. Those folk that carried over thier 9600 Pro/9700 series, or 9800 series card with a modest NF3 S754 (or SIS - VIA) will so easily be able to slide into a 6800GT or ultra and it will last them for 1-2 years. Even if the 7800 series card it 2X as fast, it doesn't matter because the 6800U will do 1600x1200 with most games. The big GPU war and SLI and Crossfire push will untimately benefit budget gamers more than anyone else IMO. It's about playable resolutions, and a 6800U will do all of that. Maybe not with a huge LCD with enormous resolutions, but for 98% of pragmatic gamers it's more than enough.
