Currently running an I7 2600k stock along with an HD 6850 2gb. I've got the upgrade bug now. What's the best Nvidia Gpu upgrade I can go for. I game but don't plan on multiple monitors. I do have an EVGA 670 FTW 2gb sitting around that I'll either sell or keep depending feedback I receive.

Thanks

What is your spending limit? At what resolution do you game,How much eye candy would you like?

Resolution? Desired Settings? Budget? Games you play?

You don't have any criteria for us to base a recommendation on.

I wouldn't buy a 780 or a 290x unless you can get onehellova deal on one. It's simply not worth $6-700 to spend on a card when a $3-500 card will do the exact same thing on a single monitor setup@1080p.

I would look for a 770/280 class card, you get 80-90% of the performance of the flagship cards for alot less money. A 770/280 card will run every game on the planet with all the bling turned on at 60-100fps@1080p.

Wtf r u talking about 780 IS $500 and a 770 even at 1300 core does not match a reference clocked 780. Close but not quite there. Lets see metro ll, metro 2033, crysis 2, crysis 3, bf4 countless other games at 60-100fps@1080p. Good luck with that. 780 also scales better with overclocking so 770 vs 780 stock is closer than both at max over clocks.

well, for 60hz/1080p 770/280x is somewhat enough, but on maxed settings it will still dip to 40 fps in demanding games while 780 should keep it much closer to 60.

i believe that overclocked GTX 780 or non reference R9 290 (tri-x!) have pretty good performance per dollar

Budget is $400 ish so I'm looking at 770 4gb card. My needs are relatively modest - single monitor, gaming COD Black Ops, resolution 1920. I realize that 4gb is overkill but I'm looking towards the future. $600 ish for a Gpu is way too much for me!

A 770 2gb can be had for $300 after rebate if you look. Even a 780 cant feed 4gb yet, so id pocket the $100 and use it next year or even six months from now.

but is it really worth the upgrade for just CoD @ 1920?

Just use the GTX 670 you have and see how it runs. If it's not fast enough, then you shoudld upgrade and sell it off.

I would recommend buying another used GTX 670 and running SLi, if your motherboard will support it.

Dual 670s with a modest OC will run pretty much anything on a 1080p screen......

The investment would be minimal and the benefit would be very substantial.:D

I was referring more or less to the 780ti cards, hence the comparison to the 290x card. But yes, there are a few 780 cards that can be had for $500, but none are the 780ti cards. I don't believe I said anywhere in the post that a 780 matches a 770. I just said there was no need for a 780 because he is using a single monitor @1080p.

That's funny, because I have all those games and have no problem getting 60-100fps on ALL of them with my GTX 770 with a single 24" 1080p monitor. BF4, (which most consider the most graphically intensive game out today), with all the bling turned on and all settings on "Ultra" or "High" I still have no problem hitting 65-75fps or more. Even at 1600x1200 most of the performance reviews had the 770 cards at 60-75fps.

You said all the bling turned on. 770 is unplayable in ALL of those games with max AA settings. Not counting bf3/4. It's not even close to the most graphically intense game. It looks good but runs fine at max settings at 1080p on 770/280x. Both metros, crysis3 will drop well below 60 very often on those cards. Crysis 3 will be unplayable with a few of its AA settings. Even my 780 dropped well below 60fps in metro ll with 2x AA and unplayable at 4 AA. 670 sli wasn't even playable at max in metro ll or crysis 3 on max settings.

also the review you posted is 2xmsaa which is not max settings.

I have the 2600K and there isn't a GPU out there that will be bottlenecked by it.

What he said. The 670 2gb may be enouh for you for the next year at least.

As far as future proofing with a 4gb card, DONT! If you need an example I can provide them, but stories are long.

The 780 at 3gb will go a longer way than a 770 w/ 4gb.

Thanks all! Will just use the 670 FTW that I have. I fought off the major upgrade bug with your assistance. Just aren't looking forward to switching over to Nvidia from AMD. Have to clear out all remnants of the AMD drivers 1st and then install Nvidia. Or should I just do a clean reinstall to minimize any issues?

Thanks
