hi guys I just upgraded my mobo and ram to whats in my sig. I did a fresh install of my os. But, now when I watch stuff on youtube.com it hitches approx every 5-10 secs. I have tried 2 different browsers. I am wondering if I need to re-install the nic driver.

Thoughts?

If YouTube is the only "program" causing you problems, then you may need to reinstall the NIC driver.
 
would I delete it with ccleaner then re-install it off the mobo cd?
 
Use CCleaner if you can't remove it using the Windows Program Management tool.

But stick with the drivers from the manufacturer's website as they are more current than what's on the CD. (If you're still having problems the second time around, however, go ahead and try the CD drivers.)
 
ok I re-installed the latest nic drivers from the Asus site and no change. I even tried different clips and the same result. Now, this mobo was an open box and someone before me had returned it with issues, but the local shop tested it without issue. When I installed win7 on it the bios did NOT have allow plug'n play checked. The previous owner did clear the cmos by removing teh battery. I restored teh factory bios settings. I didnt install all the drivers on the asus disk because win7 usually does this.

I am at a loss. I am thinking I should just return it for a new one and leave the "open box 10% off" for someone else to trouble shoot.

Thoughts?

UPDATE: I called the local shop and after a brief chat we decided to run memtest, and BOOm bad ram. I am off to exchange for a different kit.

I hope this solves the problem.

just so you are aware- memtest failing doesnt necessarily confirm bad RAM. it confirms the data is getting corrupted at some point in the path it takes. memtest will also throw errors sometimes with an unstable CPU or bad motherboard.

the video stuttering i have experienced has been from either bad video drivers, or one time from an overheating video card or northbridge. it can also be a slow (failing) hard drive delaying other tasks from being processed while the system waits for data.
 
Chances are it is bad RAM though ghost, since that is one of the parts he just replaced that is most likely to be bad.
 
so the drama continues, we memtested the ram at the shop and it passed np. So I think its the mobo.

Should I re-install the graphics driver?
 
ok update: I checked the hd and its showing 194gb used and all I have installed is the os, steam + 3 games, ventrilo, and some smaller programs. Now, no one has accused me of being a rocket scientist but that dont sound like no 194gigs to me. So, I ran check disk and it fixed 1 sector but I am still experiencing the problem.

So, where do I go from here?

I have a spare 500gb hd never used (WD5000AAKS) so I am thinking I will exchange this mobo for a Gigabyte(which I wanted in the first place) and try a fresh install on that.

Thoughts? Am I jumping the gun? I did try HD Tune and ran the error chec and got all green boxes. But, it also showed 2 warnings 1) in the Reallocated Sector Count, number of damaged sectors which have been repolaced = 1; this drive has damaged sectors. and the 2) Ultra DMA CRC Error Count, number of interface communication erros = 376. It suggest that this may have been cause by a damaged cable so I changed out the old ones with the new ones from the Asus box and still get the problems.

ok so I installed on the new hd and only loaded up the bare minimum and got the same issue. So I took the shitty Asus board back and got the Gigabyte board. I installed everything then went to install windows and I couldnt boot off the dvd drive!!!!! After leaving a crater the size of a small city, I sat down and thought about it. I then decided to try my old trust ide dvd drive, and whaddya know it boots off that and install like a dream. I am happy to say that with everything loaded up youtube plays smooth as buttah now.

so on that note, I am in need of a really well made sata dvd burner. They seem to last a long time if they get used on a regular basis but I dont use mine that often.

Any recommendations?
 
I haven't had a "bad" optical drive in a long time, but basically, virtually all of the drives available perform about the same.

Plextor is no longer top-of-the-line, and Lite-On is notably louder than other brands. Samsung, Sony Optiarc, and LG make comparatively quieter drives (though no drive is "quiet" during operation).
 
Hmm... that's weird. The last two drives that I've purchased for myself are/were Samsungs and neither of them gave me any trouble.

Probably a bad batch or something. That last two Samsung drives I've bought have worked out fine for me as well.
 
Well I definitely want a sata drive because using the ide drive made the install take twice as long as with a sata drive. What about this Asus drive?
 
the prblem with it is it was not starting to spin when prompted on boot up.
 
Again, go with the Asus SATA drive. At the very least, it should last you as long as the Samsung IDE drive.
