EVGA 780i w/ Q6600 G0 Stock
4GB DDR2 800
2x EVGA Geforce 260 SLI
4x 10k RPM SAS Array - Raid 0

I continue to run in to a lack of memory issue when running multiple instances of Eve Online, while running my Linux VMs in the background.

I've been itching to build a new system with 12GB Memory. Should I go i7 or hold a while longer?

Well the only real place you're really lacking is in the RAM department. Are running multiple instances of Eve Online and running Linux VMs in the background are the main major things you do with that PC? If so then it's up to you to decide if it's worth the $570 (if you get the i7 930 for $200 from Microcenter) to $650 minimum for the extra 2GB of RAM and another $160 on top of my original quote for 12GB of RAM total. Making this upgrade roughly about $820 for a Core i7 CPU, mobo, and 12GB of RAM.

CPU wise, the Q6600 is more than enough for Eve Online. Just OC it's a tad bit (3Ghz at least) and you'll be set in Eve Online.

The other, although a bit less desirable, route is just get more DDR2 RAM. However they are a bit pricey these days so I'd recommend buying them used from the forums. I've seen 4GB DDR2 800 RAM sets go for about $70 to $80 here on the forums. Cheaper than paying the $100 for new 4GB DDR2 800 RAM.

Depending on what you do, that Q6600 is more than enough CPU.

I've made enough poor decisions (money wise) when it comes to upgrading computer hardware that it would be silly for me to try to dissuade anyone from upgrading,(insert rant here about getting an Asetek vapochill in the early 2000's, crushing two AMD Thunderbird 1400 cores and one 1200 core with it, back when these were expensive things) but if RAM is really your problem, why spend lots of money on something else? Save it and spend the money on an even better upgrade when your system is truly obsolete :p

Provided your motherboard can support the amount of ram you need, I would just stick with it, and as the above poster says get some used ram either on here, or or on craigslist/ebay.

If you don't need to use a credit card or other financing, go for it... I just hate seeing threads where people say "As soon as i get my next check I can pay off some of my CC balance and use it to buy more things!!" Spending money you don't have ftl

No, I do not handle my finances in such a manner :)

Possibly looking at going with 8GB of memory for my current setup, instead of the full on upgrade. Then hold out for Sandy next year.

However, the deals at Newegg.com with the Level 10 case and 980X is extremely inviting!
