I had thought of the Asus P8P67 Deluxe mobo, i7-2600k unlocked, Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 Vengeance 8GB, Sapphire 100314SR Radeon HD6870 1GB, and Corsair HX650W PS. Been out of touch for a while; a new family will do that to you. Any advice would be appreciated. Oh, I will make most of my purchases at A-power.com or N C I X.

That response is very questionable right off the bat:

First off, Is your DVD burner IDE or SATA? (Many newer motherboards have no IDE ports at all whatsoever.)

Second, how old is your case? (If that case is more than four to five years old, its airflow would likely be woefully inadequate for today's very-hot-running high-performance modern components and might very well be so cramped on the inside that even a mid-level GPU would have been a very tight squeeze inside that case.)

That DVD drive is still not usable on some of the newer motherboards: Many if not all of the Sandy Bridge motherboards have no PATA ports at all. And that's not to mention that Intel's chipsets lack native PATA support since the days of the Core 2 Duo and the P35 chipset.

In my first response, PATA = IDE.

Yes. A SATA DVD burner is required for most of the newer motherboards.

A few notes about this build:
- Do note that even if you're planning on overclocking, still little to no reason to get DDR3 1600 RAM. You're gonna see the same real world performance with DDR3 1333 RAM. So you can definitely save some money and go with DDR3 1333 RAM

- That Sapphire HD 6870 1GB costs just as much as a XFX HD 6870 1GB card. So I recommend XFX over Sapphire due to the better customer service and longer warranty

- From what you've answered so far, you should be fine with the Asus P8P67 LE. I don't see a reason for the Deluxe mobo at all.
