1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming
2) What's your budget? $500-$600 pre tax
3) Which country do you live in? TN, USA
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? Unsure (explained below)
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Unsure (explained below)
6) Will you be overclocking? No
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it? Acer 24" 1920 x 1080
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Hopefully within a week or so
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? No specific features. I don't plan to SLI or overclock. I'm just looking for a decent mobo that will utilize my hardware.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Windows 7 64-bit

Hello,

I plan to upgrade my system (current specs below) and I was hoping to get some advice.

I'm on a budget of about $500-$600 so I need to choose my upgrades wisely. I generally use my system for gaming and don't really get into overclocking. I feel like the weak areas of my system are the graphics card and the HDD, so I think that's what I will focus on first. Do you guys agree?

I'm leaning toward the 660Ti and SAMSUNG 840

Also, I'm having a little trouble figuring out what to upgrade next...CPU, Mobo, PSU? I'm definitely not as up-to-date on hardware as others, but I feel like I would be fine using my existing CPU, Mobo, and PSU with the new video card and SDD I mentioned above.

All advice is much appreciated.

---Specs---
COOLER MASTER Hyper 120mm CPU Cooler
ASUS 24X DVD Burner
EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB
Intel Core i5-2400 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz (3.4GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core
ASUS P8Z68
CORSAIR HX series HX650 650W
Antec Nine Hundred Two
Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 500GB

Can you wait two weeks? Intel's Haswell, which will replace both Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge, will arrive next week.

Also, can you increase your budget to around $750 or $850? If you want both a GTX 660 Ti video card and a Samsung 840 Series SSD, you can't really fit them in a $600 budget.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't mind to wait a couple weeks if need be. Increasing my budget is not really an option. I assume you're suggesting an upgrade to the CPU before the graphics card and SSD? Also, I had both pieces at around $400 so I'm not sure how they don't fit into that budget?

I had a brain fart; I thought the parts in your first post were what you're considering.

In that case, your original plan of grabbing the GTX 660 Ti and the SSD is good. I recommend the Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD over the "plain" 840 Series 250GB SSD.

Good. So those are definitely the 2 pieces you would upgrade first? And you see no bottleneck/performance issues if I use them with my existing hardware?

Yes the two parts that Tiraides recommended are the parts I'd recommend that you upgrade to. I don't see any real major bottleneck/performance issues with those upgrades and your existing hardware.
