Updated Mona Lisa DLC

An online clan-mate doesn't understand my level of annoyance with DLC, mainly because she is both A) 90% console-only gamer B) and despite gaming for most of her life, she's only 17, so has basically only truly known additional gaming content in the form of DLC.

Found this article yesterday and I don't know about the rest of you, but I feel it articulated my views on the matter extremely well! Especially since, being a PC gamer my whole life, I'm a huge supporter and downloader of user-created content (mods) and that is hard to understand for (or express to) console gamers. lol

Between just the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series, showing her all the amazing goodies on the Nexus sites, I finally had her convinced to get a PC capable of moderate gaming... Then PS4 got announced, which paired with her waffling, now means that PC budget has been earmarked for the PS4 (regardless of the 6+mo until its release). :\ At least the PS4's (and likely XB720's) specs are respectable this generation, but it's a fat chance in hell they'll allow for mods or texture packs to be used... legitimately at least.

Anyways, Static, does your Premium Subscription represent Micro-transactions? If not, you'll need to incorporate that as well. Not sure how to incorporate it based on what you've already done, though. I was thinking having a few dozen or more tiny squares randomly missing from the picture and placed into a box labeled Micro-transactions.

What about adding GotY Edition as well? To indicate that despite the state of affairs being poor in comparison to the many years passed, that is at least one glimmer of hope we have to purchase the game along with all it's DLC content; however, I suspect that if any game with M-t content earns GotY then it will not have said content included in the GotY release. Nevertheless, food for comedic-thought :D

I think publishers don't realize the jig is up now. The biggest thing is trying to sucker people into Pre-order exclusives which we all know full well will eventually be packaged into DLC and GOTY style content. Theres literally 0 examples of this not happening. Another dumb move that I think will start hurting the industry is vague Season Passes. Especially on questionable content. They sold season passes to A:CM when the game turned out to be a complete failure and they would have been better off giving away that content to help soften the reaction to the quality of the main game.

Darksiders II had Season Pass, but for what exactly? it's a single player self-contained game. So the Season pass expansions would either be tiny expansions not worth playing or just DLC junk. The marketing decisions this last year have been really poorly made.

It's funny because they finally succeeded in blurring the line between Micro-transactions and Expansions by renaming everything DLC and then immediately raped the shit out of it. So they got a lot of money quick but the lifespan on this gimmick was really shortened by doing it.

Thats all I saw

this is way I am waiting for borderlands 2 goty edition so it comes with everything.

Thats all I saw

Because that's all you wanted to see! You don't have a spotty beard, nappy hair and own an old Panel Van do you? ;)

:p Like I have any control over the age of people who play the same games I do lol Do I need to dredge up the old AOL chat habit of asking A/S/L for each person I play with so I know whether or not I should talk to them? :D

haha Plus it could've been worse... I could be a modder and have content on Nexus, to which it might have then read: "showing her my amazing goodies"

But before this thread gets derailed...

I've thought those were a bit retarded as well... A few of those games I've seen have a Season Pass option, I've not seen mention of DLC yet, so you're taking a gamble. Sure, it's likely there will be some DLC, but who's to say it won't suck or will provide enough additional content to be worth the cost of the pass?

Which brings me to: Does anyone give away maps anymore these days, or do they all charge for them? :\ Map Packs used to be freebies and come with a handful of new levels. Some of these DLC features are also seeming to be what devs used to include in regular patches. While I commend Bethesda for not, I suspect if the Skyrim High Res Texture pack would've been available for all platforms that it would've been charged for. Since it wasn't though, I bet they didn't because they saw there were already a bunch of fan-made HD texture packs for various things and they were being released before the Creation Kit was even out. Yay mods! LONG LIVE THE PC! Hail, hail! lol

I haven't seen a free map pack in a looooooooong time. I think maybe Chivalry had one? I haven't really played that, though.
