Unknown 9: Awakening

Interesting enough.

I'm happy to see any kind of New IP, as long as some love looks put into it.

Brand Content Manager for the Unknown 9 universe is Sweet Baby Inc. COO David Bédard. SBI CEO Kim Belair is the Story Architect.

The main character Haroona sounds like your typical Mary Sue girl boss.

Why are these Japanese devs bowing down to garbage like SBI? Of all the cultures they would reject this garbage.

Wow WTF has gaming come to? I'm an old gaming fart at 69, and I would never have imagined this sort of stuff in video games. Never heard of Sweet Baby Inc so I looked it up.

According to Wikepedia: "Sweet Baby Inc. is a Canadian narrative development and consultation studio based in Montreal. Founded by former Ubisoft developers, including scriptwriter Kim Belair and product manager David Bédard, the company consults on video game narratives during development to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within game narratives and studios. Sweet Baby has consulted with several developers and games, including Sable, God of War Ragnarök, and Alan Wake 2. In 2023, the studio became the target of online users who claimed it promoted a "woke agenda". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweet_Baby_Inc.

I would say this knowing nothing of the game here and from just a little search from their website

If they found a studio and make their own games, they can do what they want imo (and people can simply not buy), this is not something worth being angry or not about, it is not like when they influence and take control of a beloved game franchise-studio they did not build themselves, if they build it themselves from the ground up, they can succeed or fail on the marketplace, this is 100% fine.

Who know maybe it will even be good, but if not, it is not like they turned one beloved franchise-game studio around ....

I feel this is what people should encourage rather than attack.

I never fault any studio for creating the original IP that they want. They just can't cry about it and blame consumers when we don't buy what they're selling. What's even crazier in this case is that it looks like they believe that this will also be a "Star Wars" like project as Sony thought Concord was going to be. Last I checked they already have this entire multimedia universe planned, from comics to streaming shows to big budget movies. But that is ultimately the issues for SJW-type and why they choose to subvert existing IP instead of creating their own: Their original ideas can't compete in the marketplace.

Looking at this game dispassionately I think the concept looks interesting, but the gameplay videos shown so far doesn't look like it's implemented too well. Much like Forspoken.

I am sure it was a good way to rise money and if everything fail on the marketplace it is fine and yes I get criticizing if they make a mediocre or below game and start blaming consumer bigotry for the failure, but we are talking about a yet to be released game and yet to fail with yet to blame affair (from what I understand).

Let woke make studios and let them try to compete without high jacking creating by other popular IPs-studios, this would have been a very fine model, if it is true people do not like it, it will fail from the start

I'm supposed to get this game from AMD when it releases but I'm not sure how much I want to play it with SBI being the driving force.

Well,,,,so far its doing better than Dustborn and worse than Concord. Granted this isn't the time of day where it will see the highest potential player count and some people might still be downloading it but its not looking good.

I typically won't judge until after the first weekend, but still, being in the 3 digits on launch day isn't good by comparison to other titles. I'm really interested to know what the game's budget was. People keep calling it an "indie game" despite having a big publisher behind it. The developer themselves employs 150 people.

We really won't know until the weekend is over but having a low three digit player count on launch day isn't good. I think it might have higher numbers than Concord but I'd bet this one will be a flop.

Most of those numbers likely come from people who got it for free in the AMD bundle.

Finished chapter 1 and not a bad start. It’s not going to win any awards but I am intrigued. But then again I was also intrigued by things like Immortals of Aveum etc. This has an Ass Creed light kind of feel to it thus far.

Anya Chalotra has a tough time finding anything to say about the character she portrays in the game when asked the diversity question. She looks pretty stressed when reaching for the words. Apparently, the actors were only given tidbits of the story that they were scheduled to capture each day, so they couldn't get a real grasp on the story.

What does diversity have anything to do with this? Game is fine thus far and it has story based in India and hence an Indian protag.

I was interested until I saw the Steam Reviews. On Steam they want a refund even though they got the game for Free.

It is ambitous, comic book-scripted audio podcast format + big book trilogy-video game, trying to do The Witcher type and get a streamer deal if it was a success I imagine.

Quick read, it does seem when something I was surprised did not exist more before, story of podcaster that encounter something strange during their research-production

Got for free along with Space Marines 2 with a new AMD CPU, installed last night. Hopefully get a chance to check it out soon. Have a crush on her from The Witcher. Game play sounds ok from a couple reviews I skimmed.

She looks much worse in the game. We can't have pretty female protagonists in games. US based studios seem afraid to do that. One of the chief creatives on it is the hateful woman behind Sweet Baby Inc. I wouldn't expect much in terms of story or engaging characters.

Actually the story is decent and the characters are good enough. Finally a linear game to play that isn't a complete turd. I am having some fun with it. Halfway I think through chapter 2 and 2.3 hours in already. Not a bad start and much better than Space Marine 2 imo.
And yes, she looks worse in the game but the game graphics are from I think 2015/2016 era.
