Ultra x3 800

What's the word on the Ultra x3 800w? is it any good. I know the 1000w version was reviewed and got good marks but how about the 800w version? They have a great modular design.

Not really IMO. Only 55A on the +12V rail, which is somewhat low for a PSU that claims to be a 800W PSU. Just for comparison, the Corsair 750TX and PC P&C Silencer 750 both offer 60A on the +12V rail yet are only 750W PSUs.

Also remember that the X3 600W was reviewed as well and it did bad.

Yup, it’s not the total AMPS that count as much as how they are spread out. I’m not sure why so many manufactures pile so much of the PSU’s power on the 5v and 3.3 volt rails these days when the 12v rail has become so important.

Way back when, like 4 years ago or so I used a lot of cheap Allied PSUs on dual socket “A” boards. Yes, it was/is a pos PSU but they had a rock solid 5v bus even at high temps and if all you needed were a few fans and a hard drive it pretty much worked.;)
