I just got one of these power supplies at a LAN, won the staff challenge, :). I was wondering if anyone had used them and how they rate against the current psu's today?

the main issue w/ ultra power supplies is that they aren't that efficient. If you run the machine 24/7 it can easily pay for itself to get a more efficient power supply.

Man you always have such good things to say about Ultra, I wonder why that is?

:)

I've noticed the same too.

spotter, you're right.
That ultra = 79.5% at 400W load. Loss = 103.1W
Cooler Master RS_750 =85.9% @ ~400W Loss = 65.7W (http://www.80plus.org/manu/psu/documents/Cooler_Master_RS_750_ACAA_A1_750W_80PLUS_Report.pdf)

If CoolerMaster was set as the reference at 400W load

The Ultra;
1. Wastes 37.4W more power which means it wastes an additional $34.72 every year at the national average of 10.6 cents/kWh.

2. Places an additional 128 BTU/hr on air conditioning system, which must use energy to reject that heat. The heat may play in favor during heating seasons, but gas heating is cheaper.

3. Reduces runtime on UPS.

The Andyson built Ultras are worth saying good things about :p

Seventeam really knows their stuff too. Ultra only used them for this one model IIRC.

Your numbers are NOT comparable as 80plus doesn't rate units at 45c.

Well this PSU is still workin great for me, and its in its second system too.
