system in sig:

this morning i went to boot it up because i like to run 3dmark loops or burn in's while im gone. So i start the best up. It hangs at the intel inside pentium 4 logo.

So i was like alright thats cool: reset cmos for 30 seconds. Come back. Same exact thing. wTf

So i tried my ram in dual channel (Blue, and purple) then tried each stick in blue 1 purple 1. Same thing. It hangs at the intel sign. No i cant get into bios with delete key.

So this happened once before and i just ripped the computer apart and reseated everything-- it worked

Did the same thing just now.. same damn thing uggggghhh

also the memery activity lights on my ram
it has two rows on each module with 9 leds going up it. The left side is stuck at 2 and the right row on each is stuck at 7

what do i do? I dont have other ram to try. No cpu. No mobo. OMG im stressed!!!

Pretty sure its the ram?

I dont wanna end up RMAing it and it still not booting

Also i am a person with a guilty concoius but i was running the ram at its stated speed. So would i tell newegg that the ram crapped out running at its rated spec 1:1 with a 250mhz fsb?

edit: never RMA'd

Also since my ram costs 399 and the pc4400 costs 399, is there any chance that newegg would allow me to return my ram for the pc4400?

Corsair has a LIFETIME warranty - they will replace your ram if it is defective. Run "Memtest 86+"

anyway newegg rma will get me pc4400 though?

dont have a floppy drive on pc :/

RMA's get you whatever the returned product is. And if you have no floppy, download the ISO version. Might not work if you can't boot far enough in.

Yea when you RMA you just get a raplacement for what you already have. I think you have like 30 days or something to return the product for a refund minus restocking fee or something though.

And even if you could RMA it for a different speed i wouldn't get PC4400. Be smart and buy PC3200 or PC3500 so you can run aggressive timings.

I can't believe someone pays $399 for that stuff when they can buy Mushkin PC3500 lvl 1 or something like it for around $220 or less and get better performance  .

And for Dual Channel, both sticks have to be in the Blue slots or both in the Purple slots. Not one in Purple and one in Blue.

Same here. I was just trying to boot diffrent in diffrent ways see if it would go.

And if l2 mushkin was still around.... id get that

EDIT: does newegg have any BH-5 ram left that will promise me 1:1 at 250fsb at 3.3V?

Mushkin lvl 2 uses BH-6 chips now which will run 2-2-2-5 but wont overclock as far as the BH-5 would. Why run 1:1? That board of yours will run 5:4 just fine and timings is what you should be worrying about instead of more bandwidth. Just enable dual channel and you have more then enough bandwidth.

well ill look into that

First i gotta see if newegg will do it. Cuz it seems like ill only get my pc4000 replaced.

So how do you propose i get mushkin 222 special?

What about the 130 buck price diffrence. Will they just give me credit there or what, mom's credit card is already paid off.

Newegg is really good about RMA's, I would call them first, it can't hurt......

Just called them

Because i ordered the system back in October, the 30 days is up for a refund and I have to get a replacement

And i dont have enough balls to send back the replacment saying it doesnt work for a refund.

edit: Any other ideas on me getting mushkin 222 special? or am i suck? Or do i keep calling newegg till i find a cool person who will let me do it :D

Newegg doesn't care if you overclocked that RAM. Its PC4000. Its rated to run 250Mhz and if it can't do that then you need replacement. Simple as that. You dont even have to tell them you overclocked it. Just tell them it wont run to spec and you want a replacement.

thats what i told them... but i want diffrent ram not the same type

They said RMAing was fine but because im over 30 days i cant get a refund and get diff ram.

One super duper smart friend told me to RMA and put it on ebay and hope to get 90% of price i paid and order new ram... Problem is, i need this ram asap
So all that shit said.. I guess i gotta RMA it for same item

Does anyone want to explain why BOTH sticks of ram suddenly fail running at spec but 2.8v instead of the 2.75 and mobo loads timings at 3-4-4-7. Could that have stressed out the modules enough to fail?

Or is my ram still good, and cpu is shot or mobo or some other junk?

Okay whats this mean

I just kept rebooting and rebooting and its posting

WTF?

do i still rma? or do i just give up?

edit: now its not working

gah edit 2: now its on windows loading screen... no luck
Now windows... loading... uber uber uber slow

well its booting windows half the time so i dont know
I cant get memtest86 to run :-/ so right now im gaming with it and tonight im going to use burn in's

What would you reccomend,
Si Sandra 04
3dMark 01se loop
Prime95

Double check all your BIOS settings to make sure everything is set right. Since you cleared CMOS, something may not have been set right. Something could also have gotten messed up before hand.

Also, I didn't see you mention that you have run the sticks individually. Try running only one stick at a time and see what happens.

yah i did say i ran the sticks individually
So i tried my ram in dual channel (Blue, and purple) then tried each stick in blue 1 purple 1. Same thing. It hangs at the intel sign. No i cant get into bios with delete key.

check your mem timings in bios.... Abit have tendency to give wrong SPD for mem... for example, my RAM is CL2.5 8-4-4,

but when i cleared CMOS, it detected as CL2 8-2-2! there's once i cleared CMOS and forgot to set it back to my normal setting, CL2.5 6-3-3, ti crashed at windows loading screen.

the last time i crashed at windows xp loading was when i flashed my VGA card to 9700pro.

Max3 always loaded my ram as 3-4-4-7 instead of 3-4-4-8 and there was never a problem with that

Right now its up and running.
Last night i ran 150 loop burn in with si sandra, but i need a windows based program i can use to test my memory.

Now im prime95
When i get home im looping 3dmark
So whats a program i can download to test my memory from windows?

I don't know of any RAM testing programs to use from within Windoze and I doubt there are very many that might actually be worth using.

It's very difficult to make a RAM tester that runs under an OS like that. Since Windoze has so much loaded into RAM, there will be a large amount of your RAM that won't be tested due to things residing in it.

I would try to give memtest86 another go. Since it boots from a floppy and is very small, it can actually test almost every bit of your RAM. I wouldn't trust a memory tester that is not able to test virtually all of your RAM.

got memtest 86 to work and im doing standard test.
250fsb 1:1 and so far its at 9 passes 0 errors in around 1 hour 13 minutes

How long do i go for? 100passes? thousand?

I usually let it run overnight.

well im gonna quit once i finish my homework and play some games on it.

THen ill restart it over night. Are any errors exceptable, any % like 1% or something? Not saying i wont be pissed if i get errors but say it runs overnight and it gets 1 error and 99 passes, acceptable or unacceptable?

11 passes error free :D

The only acceptable result is no errors at all.

Considering all the startup trouble and how everything seems to be working at the moment, I wonder if your PSU is getting weak or something.

shit i hope its no my psu
cuz i have it all modded out
and yesr right now its up and running purrfecly

Would any other reasons for it not booting past intel screen(i gotta flip switch off and on like 3 times to get it to boot past intel screen)

plz dont tell me its psu--if it is im SOL, o well ill just get that PC power or whatebver that really expensive one or a modular PSU

Well thats just damn confusing,

We point our fingeres at the ram, but at 3-4-4-7 2.8v 1:1 with 250 fsb its passes 57 times error free, im giong to let the run all day and get 100+ passes, then ill be cool.

So after that ill reboot a few times and see if the problem persists

EDIT: i rebooted and changed fsb to 263(max overclock i can get) left it 1:1 and changed timings to 3-4-4-6 and 2.9v. At 3 passes so far

edit: is it "bad" when memtest86 freezes?

Yes, it is bad when memtest86 freezes. It means something is not working right. More than likely your CPU or something can't take the speeds you are running and not just the RAM. More than likely it's just because the system is being pushed past its limits.

To me it sounds like a PSU problem. I doubt your ram is causing the instability, if it can run Memtest86 that long. I've had computers fail Memtest86 instantly and still work reasonably well.

shit i think i have to agree

but what the hell do i do. Ive modded my psu, am i SOL?

What is the best psu maker? looking for a modular psu around 500 watts and i want the wires cover(drawing a blank)

I think its the psu also because i unplugged all optical drives other hdd., all fans and that jazz and it boots :/

looked at pc power 510 but in order to get it with removable connections, it will cost me $304 us and i dont have that kind of money

Your system in your sig doesn't need anything CLOSE to 500W.

Dark how can I RMA it when I sniped the mobo wires and soldered it from a 24 pin to a 20 pin? How do i RMA it when i cut off some weird extentions? When i sleeved it? When i panted it?

djines what do you reccomend me to get. I want a sleeved black modular PSU(Modular is where molex connectors are removable at PSU right?)

Hey i dont want to start a new thread so bump for someone to reccomend me a good modular PSU.
