It's a silly name for sure, but judging by my typical experiences with Ubuntu's releases following right after an LTS release, it's probably fairly accurate.

Yes. There were LED's during the disco era. They were mostly on circuit boards for feature indication.

Yep, only small red indicator leds were feasible at that time. Nowadays all the effects are mostly LED which I assumed you referred to.
