The University of Arizona College of Engineering is testing an invisible border monitoring system that uses laser pulses transmitted through fiber-optic cables buried under the ground.

A unique underground surveillance system tested by UA researchers could be used to watch the entire US‐Mexico border continuously. The border-monitoring system, known as Helios, consists of laser pulses transmitted through fiber-optic cables buried in the ground that respond to movements on the surface above. A detector at one or both ends of the cable analyzes these responses.

Unless they back up that system with more manpower, all it is going to do is tell us how many illegals crossed the border that we didn't apprehend....but it's a start.
 
I still think they should put legal immigrants on border patrol. With all the shit they have to go through to get certified, they'd probably turn into the Incredible Hulk when they see some guys jumping the border.

Totally true! I have an RN from Romania that went through hell to get here that constantly yells at the illegal latino's to learn english or GTFO! LOL What's great is there is not a damn thing any civil rights group or the hospital can do about it either!:D

Throw employers who hire illegals in jail and deny benefits to non-citizens and the problem will solve itself.

I don't think they really care about stopping illegals. I mean, they ought to have police deal with illegals already living in the US.

Even better, they ought to tackle it by the root of the problem. I remember a few years ago when Mexico's President was encouraging Mexicans to illegally cross into the US. We ought to just nuke and wipe out Mexico, or take it over if they want "in" so badly.

Might also be important that you have the worst drug-war zones adjacent to the US border as well.. I wonder if this has any connection. :p

I wouldn't say that is the root. Mexicans will come over whether or not there are jobs.

Recall the drug wars in Mexico. :rolleyes: I am sure if you lived there, you would want to move your family to a safer place too.

Not nearly as many would come over, don't be ridiculous. If there are no jobs available, you'd be better served going the legal route. Besides, heavily fining or imprisoning people for hiring illegals would lead to them hiring legal citizens and we get jobs back. Crappy jobs but jobs.

Oh.. and they need to put a chem sniffer on these cables to detect the presence of narcotics. Then you launch drones and BOOM!. C'mon.. what are we gonna do with a bunch of trained drone pilots when they get out of the Army anyway?

Oh cry me a river. Look at all the people on welfare, they have no interest in being maids or mowing lawns. I remember the one time a local government decided that people who got welfare after x time got to work for the city for free cleaning streets. There was a huge uproar over that. Immigrants only take jobs from the lazy.

Who said anything about welfare? There are alot of people searching for jobs constantly because 30 million+ people need a job due to the recession. There are also people on welfare who don't like being on welfare.. though I'm sure the numbers there are skewed in your favor.
