can the HDMI drive 2560x1600? I know later HDMI revisions allowed all the way upto 4k res....

and have you tried a factory rest via the menu? It won't rid of the factory panel calibration.
 
I'm curious to know what "pixelated crap" looks like. Feel free to post some pictures as I'm sure most of us have no idea what that means.

Running an LCD at less than native resolution (except in factors of two - ie 1280x800 in this case) will always result in a fuzzy picture.

Perhaps you are coming from using cleartype/font smoothing and all of a sudden you're not? lol

HDMI 1.4a I believe can do higher than 1920x1200, but a believe a gts 250 cannot.
 
ah, I just did a bit of wiki, it looks like HDMI 1.3 can, just depends if nVidia included the Summer 2006 spec into their G92 core design....
 
Yea something is up with the cable or monitor its-self. That is completely not normal.
 
huh, I noticed that while windows reports my screen resolution to be 2560 x 1600, the OSD reports it as 1280 x 1600. Come to think of it, the screen does look relatively "normal" sized, and not a massive 2560 x 1600. How can I fix this?

Edit: when I try to go through my NVIDIA control panel rather than right clicking the desktop and changing the resolution there, and I try to setup a custom resolution of 2560 x 1600, a popup tells me "Test failed. Custom resolution 2560 x 1600 at 60 Hz (32-bit) is not supported by your display).
 
I took a look at the pins on my DVI. Dell bastards sent me a DVI-D single link. ugh.
 
what!? refurb bundle quality is sure dropping.... as for the 24bit/refresh rate, that was to do with HDMI....

DVI cable taht came with my new U2711 is dual link (also a displayport, too, but that's not useful for ya).

seems like others have had this problem. They seem to think the dvi cables are not really dual link... but mine came from dell. That would be super lame if they didn't send me dual link dvi.

Well then there ya go , single link DVI equals fail for a 30 inch. Contact them and get them to send you the right kind of cable or goto Monoprice and get one dirt cheap.
