So I'm going to buy 3 monitors for an eyefinity setup for my new desktop. I was originally gonna get either the AW2310 or the dell U2412M, but they either don't support portrait, or suck for gaming apparently.

I have CFX 6970's, so no 3D vision (yet. I would not be surprised if either I went green next time or AMD did 3D in their next couple gens of cards). I'm intending to use them for gaming and coding in landscape and occasionally portrait mode.

What's a good 23 or 24" monitor?

/And this is heavily edited from original OP, so if next two parts seem off, that's why

Unless you have your own mounting arm, I don't think the AW2310 will rotate to portrait mode.

Well, that answers that. I've caught way too many bugs because of portrait mode NOT to have portrait mode.

Though seriously though, is 120hz worth it?

Have you ever tried to use a TN screen (AW2310) in portrait mode? YUK! I can tolerated TN in landscape but in portrait, those previously bad vertical viewing angles I can sometimes ignore, becomes horrendous horizontal viewing angles I simply can't tolerate at all.

How do you know the U2412 IPS screen sucks for gaming? 10e has one and initially reports what appears low lag, he plans to hook up with a CRT later to get more definitive.

If I wanted to do anything productive in landscape or portrait the extra resolution of the U2412 would be a large bonus, I am only looking at another 1920x1200 screen, not 1920x1080 ones.

I don't think 120Hz is worth it at all, it is more placebo than anything IMO. I wouldn't buy an otherwise inferior TN monitor to get 120Hz refresh unless I was making a living from gaming.

The U2412M shows me pretty good responsiveness. I have about 20 high speed photos at 1/100 second exposure that show a small amount of reverse ghosting, but responsiveness looks solid.

I can't say if 120hz is worth it. Some will swear by it, but I have an Acer GD235HZ sitting in the box because it didn't impress me enough to replace my IPS panels. And the Acer is considered to be one of the most, if not THE most responsive 120hz screens.

My plan is to try DisplayPort and DVI to see how much extra hz I can get. I'm hoping DP will go up to 72 hz on the U2412M.

Ok. I had heard it sucked for gaming. I'm glad that is not the case.

Heard where? It only became available a few days ago and AFAIK 10e is the first case reported of anyone actually getting one.

From what he has reported so far it sounds like a winner.

Ironically, second or third-hand from someone else in that thread earlier. I'm glad to hear that that rumour is false.

/Now if only it had HDMI, so I could hook it up to the XBOX I'll probably be getting tonight.

DVI = HDMI. They are the same thing in a different connector.
