u2211 compared to u2311?

If I'm looking for a screen mainly for gaming, is it better to get the u2311 or the u2211? Ghosting will drive me nuts if its terrible, but I'm not a huge fps gamer so I should survive. Currently, I have a Samsung TN with 2ms response time, but I can live if the upgrade is worth it (in terms of prettyness and better usage of my Nvidia 460)

I don't need the extra space, but if its faster for my purposes, I'll save up and wait.

Also, has any one had good luck with a refurbished Dell monitor? More specifically the 2311 or 2211. I'm thinking of trying one of them, but if its a bad idea, I will try to be a bit more patient. It looks like the deals are done for a while for the monitors above.

Other recommendations in the 200-300 dollar range for gaming are appreciated.

Finally, while I know the dell small business coupon does not work on the 2311, how do I go about getting one? I signed up yesterday and never recieved in it my email. (new non-dell used email as well)

I got a refurb U2311H. Had to go through 3 different monitors (sent it back twice) before getting a good one, but I was pleased with the customer service and the replacements shipped overnight at no cost to me, as well as the return shipping being paid by Dell. If you go read the U2311H thread you'll see that even people getting new ones have the same issues.

I guess my best advice is, if you want a monitor that immediately works with no hassle, it may not be the best one for you. That said, if you are willing to put a little time into getting a decent one (and who knows, you may get a good one right away) then it's definitely worth it, since it's an amazing monitor for the price.
 
Might also want to consider the ips226v if you're looking at the 2211. Better contrast ratio and response time according to digitalversus. It has also been confirmed to run 76hz w/o dropping frames. I'm planning on keeping mine (I bought 4 other monitors, all returned) until something in the 24-27" range really blows me away, at which point this one can become a bday gift for my girlfriend...or something. 2211 does have a better stand though.

226 is $180 shipped on amazon.
 
TBH both panels have very similar specs on paper so I wouldn't be surprised if the Dell handled 76hz too. Also Digital Versus is wrong, the responsiveness isn't better on the IPS226, it's similar. 10ms vs 11ms means nothing and could be very well be caused by their test protocol. And, if you look in their Digital Face-offs the pictures show a Dell monitor that is more responsive than the LG, wtf?

The biggest problem with the LG IPS series IMO is that the edge-LEDs can often cause terrible uniformity and clouding unless you're lucky. Contrast may be better but again Digital Versus has strange results sometimes so I'm not even convinced.

That said if you get one with decent uniformity it is a nice monitor, perfectly playable even for games such as Quake or Unreal Tournament.
 
go for u2211, smaller area and 1080p resolution = sharper image, thats what i am going for, but i am thinking going for HP ZR22W which is an S-IPS. Also look for a Dell 2209WA very good monitor.

The U2211s are very dim monitors. A friend has one, once calibrated it maxed out at something like 110cd/m2.

That may be bright enough today, but it will get dimmer over time, so you have no headroom.

Usually I don't mention low brightness because I like a dim monitor, but I would not buy one with that low a top end.

To put this in perspective, when new my NEC was about 140 cd/m2 at minimum brightness!

The LG IPS226 on the other hand is extremely bright (far too much at max brightness to be fair).
