I am planning on hooking up 2 monitors 2 my computer. I have a GTX Geforce 550 Ti and on the back are 2 black cable connectors with an hdmi connector too. Now when i installed it it came with an adapter for vga. If i go out and buy a new/used monitor all i will need is another vga adapter? or should i just get one with an hdmi cable and plug them both into that.

Or should i just get a vga and plug that into the video card on the motherboard? Not sure whats the best way to do it.

Also what are the pros/cons of using 2 monitors, I want it because i think you can play a game on one and have a browser open on the other?

Please any help is appreciated.

can add adapter to other dvi port or just use dvi cable or hdmi

any way works. hdmi is easiest, dvi is good quality, vga is vga lol

as for 2 monitors in general game + movie is nice, and sometimes i switch one of the monitors to xbox so i can still use pc on 2nd
 
so i shouldnt even use the video card on the mother board? do new computers come with hdmi cord ? whats the down side of using a tv as a computer monitor? i like to play games and i dont know if that will effect the refresh rate.
 
Since almost all video cards support at least 2 monitors there really shouldnt be a need to split the monitors beetween the card and the onboard.

There are some cons to using the onboard video card. The main con being if you keep the onboard video card enabled it will have to utilize some of the system RAM to operate. If the onboard isn't an Nvidia GPU you'll be installing 2 different sets of driver software.

Also not all motherboards will allow you to keep the onboard enabled when a video card is installed, so it might not even be possible for you to do.
 
Ok so i'll keep the one with the VGA adapter and go get one with an hdmi cord thanks for the help
