Currently have a 4850 with latest driver set....

I'm adding a third display to my setup and would like to know if the 2nd graphics card needs to be the same model/series/make? Because if not, I'd need to run different drivers right?

Probably better to have asked in video cards but -

If you are using Vista, because of WDDM 1.0, the cards have to be the same manufacture, or more specifically they have to use the same driver. Vista uses WDDM 1.0 which cannot use multiple display drivers. If you are using Win 7 with WDDM 1.1, then you can use multiple drivers.

as long as it is an ATi radeon HD2000 series or newer, it will be fine.

anything from HD2000--->HD5000 will do, any model.

Good point limitedaccess.... I was just here updating another thread. Mods can move if necessary!

But yes, I'm using win 7 64bit. Whereabouts do I find which WDDM version I have?

I'm just gonna look for the cheapest, passive card I can that will drive 1920x1200. If anyone's got any good experiences from a particular card/maker lmk!

You will be fine with W7.

I have two different cards, with the same driver (10.4a). Granted they are in Crossfire and all my monitors are in Eyefinity (on the same card).

Sorry, I probably should have phrased it has "if you have Win 7 which uses WDDM 1.1. This was one of the improvements of 7 over Vista.

As far as I know in terms of displaying 1920x1200, I can't really imagine any current card that is still selling that wouldn't be capable of handling that resolution. You might just want to make sure the card has a digital out (likely DVI) over analogue (VGA), but that is about it.
