Did you know that those hot-chick tweets are likely bunk? I know this is a shocking revelation, but it has to be told. Those "girls" are fake! The SIREN spam botnet has been identified as having 90,000 unique Twitter accounts responsible for over 8.5M Twitter posts, that have garnered over 30M clicks. Now we know what Twitter is really good for, pr0n. The botnet looks to originate from Eastern Europe. I know that I continually see these "girls" follow the HardOCP Twitter feed, then after checking out their profile, for investigative reasons, I block them from our account. Now that Star Wars botnet however, is something I can get behind.

The SIREN botnet leverages a vast network of algorithmically generated Twitter accounts to distribute a payload URL that redirects to a variety of spam pornography websites. All of the nearly 90,000 accounts have a suggestive photo of a woman as a profile picture and a female name as the displayname (Figure 1). The accounts either engage directly with a target by quoting one of their tweets or attracting targets to the payload visible on their profile bio or pinned tweet.

I'm not sure the blur is good enough, I mean I know you'd be stupid to go to that URL but I can almost make it out.

It was a lot of work to put SIREN botnet together. I cannot believe enough people fall for these scams to warrant all of this work!
