this is a load of crap. I wouldn't be suprised if its just marketing bs. I have the TB Montego DDL w/ a 2.54 ghz p4 and there is ZERO lag between image and audio. Half Life 2, BF2, etc...it syncs up perfectly and there is ZERO performance lost that I can tell. I suggest this card to anyone on the market. Its completely replacing my Audigy 2 plat that I've had for a few years. It sounds awesome.

i think its a mis-understanding..

what i understand the problem is, isn't with teh DDL and sound but specificially with the SPDIF-IN not syncing with the picture..

eg.

if you have an external DVD player and plug the optical in and play the DVD, the sound is out of sync with the picture on the TV..


i wonder if that is why the SPDIF daughter board for the Mystique HDA hasn't come out yet..

oh i see what you mean. Sorry...I haven't tried that yet, so I can't confirm...i'm a pretty hardcore gamer and i'm pretty happy with this card so far. Granted if a hardware solution for DDL comes out in the future I'll probably upgrade, but for now this is terrific and at $69 from newegg theres no reason to wait indefinately.

ignore coolguy's post, he spammed all MontegoII DDL threads with that crap. Why on earth do we have to take a competitor's (or his) word for it?

The proof is in the pudding imho, and it doesn't look like he owns the montego II

The proof will come from sound card reviews not what he said she said. And right now the only review is from nvnews when they did the HDA. I havent found any Montego DDL reviews yet.

These cards do SOFTWARE ddl. THere are people getting stuttering and significant fps loss with ddl enabled. HDA website even lists ddl under "valuable software enhancements" or something like that. Some people wondering why c-media + chip is needed if it is software but the fact remains that it is software. BUT, as with all things, your mileage may vary. Some people rave about these things and claim no game degredation or skipping and others say it brought about very annoying stuttering and game pausing............................................................

I really wanted one but now I'm waiting for someone who understands what gamers want to review this card.(Hard, Anand.......hell, even firingsquad)Only stuff you can find are from audiophile sites with a lot of talk about audio gobbledygook...................No doubt it aint gonna have audigy type cpu usage numbers, nor is it gonna do as well as soundstorm which actually had good cpu usage numbers which I remember from reading A7N8X-Deluxe reviews from this very site back in the day.

I have been testing cpu usage with all types of sound and music on my HDA since reading this MSI thread, and my findings show from 0 to 4% cpu usage with DDL enabled. And my belief is that any and all sound created and output with DDL enabled would take a hit regardless of where they originate. Maybe I'm missing something here, but if this DDL implementation was strickly S/W there would be a CPU hit for any and all sounds output while DDL is enabled.

I've been enjoying my Montego with headphones for the few days I've had it. I'll be hooking it up to some Logitech Z-5500's eventually once college starts, but for now it's headphones only. They sound great, but I've had one INCREDIBLY annoying problem with them:

Watching movies in Media Player Classic causes my computer to freeze and reboot every time it starts if the movie is using AC3 audio or DTS audio, and I'm using Media Player Classic's AC3/DTS decoder. It's just incredibly annoying, and I don't understand why it's happening. I'm extremely tempted to switch back to my Santa Cruz until I can hook up my Z-5500's.

I own a santa cruz as well and am looking at the Montego cards. I wanted surround sound for my games, but am tempted to upgrade. It seems if all the new cards have some problem with them that essentially degrades their performance.

I only think it would be a problem if you're downmixing AC3 or DTS sources with Media Player Classic; everything has played fine in WMP. I'm sure if I was just passing through the AC3 or DTS to SPDIF I wouldn't have this reboot problem.

The Montego DDL is an awesome card. I got it from Fry's Electronics a few days ago. It's well worth the money, which I migh add is twenty dollars less than the HDA-M. It also has S/PDIF In which is not included on the HDA-M.
