Turn off cool 'n' quiet?

You might be able to find a program that can disable it, but Cool'n'Quiet really only causes problems if you want to overclock, which you won't be doing a lot of with an OEM system. I'd say don't worry about it.

a BIOS lock is bullshit

good luck is all i can say, cool and quiet is worthless

Yes, but i can't find a reason to my problem.
The support write about cool 'n' quiet and a bug that lock the CPU to do what it can.
I don't know how or why.. but..yah.

turn it off when ocing, although never caused any probs...
thats the problem, he cant get into the BIOS to turn it off

i would call HP support if you cant find any other way in, its YOUR PC, not theirs.
man, crap like this gets my junk in a tizzy

yeah, how dare they try to make your computer run cooler, consume less power, and have less fan noise! Evil bastards!

cool'n'quiet, just like speedstep, is a great little technology.

By settings your power management settings to Home/Office instead of Minimal Power Management, CnQ is disabled :)

CnQ is only activated when you have the power scheme "Minimal Power Management" activated in the Power Options Properties control panel applet.

..so just set it to one of the other schemes, such as Home/Office Desk, and say goodbye to CnQ.

On many HP and Compaq systems, you can press F11 during boot for access to an additional BIOS menu that provides fan controls and Cool n' Quiet options.

But why would you turn it off--it works great and you can still overclock.

I turned on QandQ and my CPU fan stopped running at idle? Is this normal? I kinda panicked when it happened and turned QandQ off.

I don't understand why you want Cool N Quiet disabled? If you are heavily overclocking I can see why, but you have an HP.....

Anyways, go to your power management, enable the max power management or normal home/desktop power management.

Did it actually turn off--did you check it visually? Or did it just slow down to the point that you couldn't hear it any more?

If your motherboard has fan control enabled or if you loaded the manufacturer's software that controls fan speed, then C n' Q may have let your CPU cool down to the point that the fan could be run at a much lower speed. If you load up the CPU by running Prime95, for example, the motherboard or software will speed up the fan again.

If you have a really good cooler and a well-ventilated case, your fan may run very slowly or even stop. For example, I have a Ninja on my 3800X2 (which is overclocked to 2.4.) There's a 120mm exhaust fan an inch or two from the Ninja running silently at 600 RPM.

I use Speedfan to control the fan on the Ninja based on CPU temperature. 90% of the time, the fan is off, because C n' Q and the Ninja keep the CPU very cool. The CPU fan only comes on when I'm gaming or benchmarking, and even then it never goes over about 65% of its rated speed.

I had the side door off and saw it visibly. It would stop moving unless I opened a program or opened a folder then it turned on. When my CPU usage went back to down to single digits the fan stopped. I have an A64 3000+ with the stock cooler.

Here's a quick way to see if CnC is working, Change your power settings to "Minimal Power Management", Then right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties" . The CPU speed shown will be just about half of what your actual CPU speed is.
