TurboLink 420W = Enough?

I am getting in my X800XTPE tomarrow and was wondering if this cheap TurboLink 420W PSU would be sufficient.

What it will be powering:

Athlon64 3200+
MSI Mainboard
ATi X800XTPE
Santa Cruz Sound Card
1 x PCI Fan card LED
1 x Hard Drive
1 x Optical Drive
1 x Fan Controller
1 x 80mm LED fan
1 x 120mm fan
2 x 12" Blue CCFL's

USB:

Nostromo
Logitech MX510
Logitech Etreme 3D Joystick
Logitech Elite Keyboard
 
I don't have a lot of money to spend and my X800XTPE will be in tomarrow.. What do you suggest I go with that will work great and is rather cheap?

Depending on your definition of cheap these are probably mutually exclusive with your setup.

What is the price point?
 
But you spent all that money getting an X800XT-PE... :rolleyes:

TurboLink 420W = Deer, as far as I'm concerned. Don't touch those with a ten-foot stick.
 
I maybe have about 40-50$ or so. I have over 450$ in cash in my wallet right now but was just in a wreck and need to make sure I have enough for all the things that come first like bills next week. Anyways, what would happen if I did try to use the X800 on my PSU? Would it damage anything or just work or not work?
 
BTW, my 6800 runs great on this PSU so shouldn't an X800 run okay also?

and I highly doubt youll find anyone that will say yes thats a good idea

it might work, it might fry everything in the box and burn down your house
they are literally the worse kind of junk and account for more fried components than any other manufacturer
 
I think I'll go with that Forton 350W assuming that is enough for my setup. So if I would try it on my TurboLink I could take the chance of frying everything? I find that a bit hard to believe. Anymore input would be nice as I want to use it asap and get of this FX5600 and not wait 5 days for the new PSU =/...

It's not a common occurance but certainly not unheard of. I have used that brand in the past and had nothing but problems (computer reboots) until it was replaced with a quality Antec unit. I doubt the unit will fry all your equipment but it's certainly something to think about. If it does happen to screw up and damage equipment you will be out a lot more money than it would have cost to purchase a decent power supply.

When the line section of the power supply has a failure - eg, input rectifier, PFC, main switching transistors, primary side drive, etc... usually the supply fails with a spectacular BANG but doesn't take any computer components with it.

If the output section of your power supply fails (secondary side rectifiers, magamp, output capacitors, control circuitry, etc)... normally you end up with a quiet but stinky failure, and dead computer hardware.

The Powmax supplies i've encountered invariably blow their primary side... the undersized transformer saturates, main transistor current goes too high, main transistors blow, and the supply drops dead without harming anything. This is the only good thing I can say about that company. :D

Deer supplies, with secondary side rectifiers stupidly-fucking-formed by soldering axial diodes to a metal heatsink... those almost always kill computers. I've seen holes blown in motherboard chipsets due to deer supplies...

Very true. Arg I don't want to wait but to be safe need to. I think I'll go ahead and get that nice CM Real Power 450W Blue LED one, heck with bills!
 
Ditto that but I know the supply I just blew one up :D Nice ozone smell I must say.

Anyway, it is a good supply but not for your setup.
 
That particular power supply is made by Real Power. That's a little better than Deer. Sort of like comparing a nice firm turd to diarrhea.

Did you already buy the 3200+ CPU? If so, how much did you get it for. If not, do you know how much you're going to spend?

rofl - now there's an apt analogy if ever I heard one :D

Interesting to see Gee's comments - he is 100% right of course. When my Deer went before I smartened up about PSU's, it was on the secondary side. Lucky for me, it was only killing hard drives at that point.
 
I've had all these for awhile with an unlocked 6800NU that ran fine. I have a LAN this weekend I forgot about and am going to test it to see before my new CM 450W gets in from newegg.
 
Well I went ahead and tryed it with my fingers crossed and.... And it worked great! Not one problem yet. HL2 never looked so beautiful! Can wait to go from my current 512 to 1.5 by next week, that should definately help the stuttering.
