Trying to troubleshoot graphics problem, Help!

Hello all,
So my PC started to act up recently out of no where and i'm trying to pin point what the problem is.
I'm leaning towards the graphics card as it seems to be a graphical problem. But it could just as well be the motherboards PCIE port...
Basically everytime i boot up a game, even if it is not graphically intense like quake live or counter strike, my pc freezes/crashes. Even after restarting a few times it get a bunch of artifacts on my screen. My dual monitor setup doesnt seem to be working either, only one dvi port works at the moment.

Computer specs:
Core 2 quad Q6600
Geforce 8800gts
Don't know the motherboad i am using
8gb Ram
Windows 7

I'm probably going to upgrade my PC by changing the mobo/cpu/graphics card but want to know what i need to scrap.

What PSU do you have?
Can you swap in a different GPU?
 
Main culprit would be GPU. As the above poster said, try to swap it with another and see if that fixes it.
Also, did you upgraded your drivers before it started acting up? Maybe you might want to roll them back, see if that fixes it if that's the case.

It used to crash when I played youtube videos in HD or any graphical intense apps. Now it's running smooth and like new.

I would recommend this as a last ditch approach. First I would check the drivers/software issue. Then consider if your power supply might be having issues. Then when you're just about to write off the GPU, bake it.

Edit: Unless the GPU is still under warranty, in which case make the company who made it deal with it.

Most likely is the GPU my GTX 460 was doing this about 2 weeks ago swapped it out with an old GTS 250 and worked so had to send it in for RMA
