I have some spare hardware I'll toss fah on. I'm new to F@H but I used to do DC-'like' projects years ago. Since electric and free AC come with my apartment I may as well take advantage of that.

One of my PC has a 9800GT which I'm tring to throw the GPU client (win7) against but it doesn't seem to be working. Or maybe I'm just checking it incorrectly. It's set for MachineID=3 but it just errors after decompressing. This machine is an i7 with both 470 and 9800GT card. The i7 SMP client seems to work fine. The 470 works fine since I was running F@H on it last week. The 9800GT was just put in yesterday. The card works as I just removed it from another working (not F@H releated) box.

Any ideas on how to get this 9800 on the train? Maybe something I'm doing wrong or just another monitoring utility?
 
its an issue with mixing gpu3 and 2 i assume, Id use gpu3 only and just make sure you have your flags in the extension

if you just use gpu3 i would think just following the multi gpu guide here should get you going

And it repeats. It doesn't seem to be running on gpu 1. Gpu 0 (my 470) works fine, but nothing on the 9800.
 
Did you try to enable a display output on the 9800GT and extend your desktop?

I know there's some debate on whether this step is required, but it couldn't hurt.

In the past anyway, a GPU had to be engaged by extending the desktop to the 2nd (or 3rd, etc) GPU.

Also, just to double check, device manager recognizes the 9800GT?

Another double check, the machine IDs don't conflict, and you have your 470 set to GPU 0 correct? Edit I see that you did.

Edit 2: we're still learning the ropes of folding with Fermi and the GPU 3 client. I wonder if GPU 3 supports mixing GPU families in this manner. Maybe a search on folding forum will turn up something.....
 
Hm. You're downloading core 15, but the guy on folding forum who got a GTX260 running with his fermi (here downloaded core 11. The only difference I can see is that he added "-local" to his arguments.

Try that? Can't hurt.
 
Also, make sure you're running the latest drivers, 258.96

The 9800GT is enabled. I actually have the system with 4 active displays. My 470 has both ports enabled (for 2 monitors) and the 9800 has both active as well (for 4 total monitors)

That was the last thing I tried this morning. I added the local switch. Same thing.

I'll check when I get home tonite. This was a new clean install of windows. The OS was installed a few days ago and it grabbed all the windows updates. So it's using whatever MS has on windows update site.

Just wanted to make sure, the 9800 and 200-series uses nvidia_g80, while the 400-series uses fermi. Is that correct? Right now my 470 has no forcegpu switch, it does have -gpu 0 when launching tho. The 9800 has -gpu 1 and whatever combonation of switches I've been trying for. -forcegpu, -advmethods and -local.
 
right, as far as I can see you have it set up properly.

So just grab the newest driver from nvidia? I've always just stuck with whatever windows update offers. It's been awhile since I've ran a windows machine. If all goes well, I can add this card to my folding stack.

Upgrading to that nvidia driver did the trick. Got both my gpus are folding now. The 9800GT not a whole lot, but it's still better then zero.

So all in all, I got my computers folding for [H] now.

Total now:

2 i7s OC, i3 OC, 4 C2D(Q9550/Q6600) all OC, 4 P4s Stock.
A geforce 470, 260 and 9800GT video on the job and a 2nd 260 sometime this weekend. And a single PS3.

I suppose there isn't an opensolaris client? My home NAS box isn't doing anything but running samba/nfs. That would be another quad. I have about dozen ancient athlon xp boxes at home as well. They're probably too slow to be useful tho.
 
Do you use those 4 P4's for anything besides folding?

Yeah, the P4s might not be worth folding for their power consumption.

Power I don't really care. Utilities are free for me. Which is why with 3 AC units running, it's almost too cold at home. :p

Not really. I should have said, those P4s are Pentium Ds. Dells which nobody are actually using. They aren't too bad as I've used them maybe several months ago. Beginning of the year? Almost all these machines are running linux, so they just sit around idling. I really should get around to installing a monitor program here.
 
You might be able to sell them and pick up a used GPU, would increase your output a bunch, and save a bunch of space. Plus, even tho you dont pay it, youve got to be putting a killer load on your home grid, that would help lower your draw

Hmm, I wonder how well they would do with standard A3 WUs? Maybe try installing Win 7 on one machine and see if they can make the bonus now that Stanford increased the deadline for dual cores. What frequency are these clocked at (sorry if you mentioned it already)?
 
I think all the Pentium Ds are 3.0Ghz. Not exactally fast, but better then the dozen Athlons I have stacked in my closet. :p
