Trying to match up a replacement CPU

I'm shopping for a replacement CPU. Probably going to go the easiest route and get an exact same model so I don't mess up compatibility.

I have: Intel Pentium 4 560 3.60GHz 800MHz 1MB 775 Pin LGA CPU OEM

I can find: Intel Pentium 4 560 3.60GHz 800MHz 1MB 775 Pin PLGA CPU OEM


Is there an actual different between LGA and PLGA?
 
What board you playing with? if you can go with core 2 duo it would be a much better option.
 
My board is 4-5 years old: INTEL D925XCV 925X MOTHERBOARD

So I assumed it probably wouldn't be compatible with core 2 duo chips :( If I'm wrong, I'd be delighted!! I'm not very tech saavy when it comes to mobos, chips and compatibility.
 
No real difference they are interchangeable

Keep in mind there are cheaper ones then 60$
 
Yes, I've looked at a few mobo/cpu/ram combos and it is very tempting. Initially, I was afraid of dealing with the operating system and what it will do when it sees a bunch of new hardware. I'm not sure if that is easily remedied or not.

More than likely the OS will crash, BSOD or act ridiculously sluggish if you replace the mobo with a completely different mobo and chipset. A repair install would probably work but often times, a complete reformat would be better.

Oh why do you need a replacement CPU in the first place? And how much was that P4 that you found?
 
That rig currently has XP pro on it. I've got another post cooking on the CPU topic, but I think it over-heated and fried. I got a bios message of CPU Event (overheating) and it hasn't booted since. I tried cleaning the cpu fan and replacing the thermal compound but no go. I get the initial post beep and then nothing..... won't even shut off unless I used the power supply switch.

Pricewatch gave me $44 for the same CPU.
 
It may also be a mobo problem as well. So see if you can get your hands on a working 775 P4 CPU from someone or locally and see if the mobo boots then. If not, then the mobo and CPU might both be out of commission.
