And was hoping to get some thoughts.

I am replacing a 2006 Dell 2707WFP

I am looking in the $400 to $450 range
I am looking for a general use monitor
I do some gaming (XCOM, L4D2, Bioshock, Life is Strange, Spacehulk, Homeworld Remastered. you get the idea) and some movies
GPU is a Asus GTX970
CPU i7-5720K in a Asus X99 Deluxe

The 2 that have intrigued me most
http://www.asus.com/us/Commercial_Monitors_Projectors/PB278Q/ - Lots to be found on this and positive reviews. Low on features and a funky stand

http://www.usa.philips.com/c-p/272S4LPJCB_27/brilliance-led-backlit-lcd-monitor-with-smartimage - I cannot find anything on this. It seems to have lots of features, very comparable specs to the Asus (slightly smaller viewing angles and higher brightness)

Thanks for any input! Thoughts on other options are also welcom!

Go with the one that will let you return for having even 1 dead pixel!

Yeah, check the warranty and return criteria.

That being said, I am about ready to buy two Asus PB278Q's, they're fantastic monitors. I haven't heard anything about the Philips and I've been doing a lot of research, so that may tell you something (or maybe not).

There is a batch of overlord tempest arriving over the next weeks, which may as well be the last 120hz IPS we will see on a long while, as the boards capable of overclocking the LG panel are no longer produced.

You could get dual Korean monitors with that price if you look around well..

That is, if you can live with some dead pixels.

QNIX QX2710. I own 3. You can buy them through Amazon if International shipping worries you. None of mine have dead pixels either.

I seriously think these are some of my favorite monitors of all time. EXCELLENT color reproduction , easily overclockable to 120hz and decent contrast. Very low input latency for gaming. They do have some PWM dimming so if that's something you are concerned with now you know. However I'm sensitive to PWM dimming and I don't have an issue tolerating them at all.

Very hard to beat them at the price/performance ratio.
