it renders things smoother, but on my system it makes older games i.e hl2 engine games not work well
 
It's old obsolote technology. It was designed to make curved surfaces smoother when games could use lower polygons. Now days with the power of PC's and Vidcards, they can render more polygons so TrueForm and nPatches are obsolete.
