TRUE revC from FrozenCPU

Ordered a TRUE revC from FrozenCPU, and it just arrived. The box had the seals broken on it, and all of the parts bags were opened. Everything appears to be in the box, and the heatsink doesn't appear to have any dents/flaws, so is there anything that I should be concerned about (apart from getting a second-hand TRUE for a brand new price)?

Can I check anything else before installing it on my mobo?

Anyone else had this problem with frozenCPU?

You should definatley yell at them for that, if you're completely sure you didn't order an OB heatsink (are there even such things?)

If everything appears intact, you have proper mounting components, and the base of the heatsink isn't F'ed with. it should work just fine.

but still- you should go ahead yell at FrozenCPU for that.

It shipped via FedEx from NY to Washington, DC... so no customs check.

The two little clear circle seals on the top of the package were broken, and the parts bags were open (nicely, on the ends... not torn open).

After closely inspecting everything, it seems like its all in good shape. The mounting bracket, backplate, screws, etc are all in the bags. The instructions are included. The base of the heatsink still has clear sticky protective cover (or has a new one). There are no bent fins, and the base shows no scratches or imperfections (could use lapping, but I was expecting that). The only thing that I couldn't test is the fan, since most of the rest of my parts still haven't come in. The fan shroud appears to be without defect, and the fan spins when I push it with my finger (doesn't seem to have any sticking points or irregularities).

As displeased as I am about getting an open box, I think I'll probably keep it and avoid the delay it would cause if I returned it. I just probably won't be ordering from FrozenCPU again.

Dang, thanks for the heads up. I rarely look at FrozenCPU b/c their prices are usually too high, but this is just another reason now.

Yeah, only went with them because I had a coupon code from a friend. Now I know why he didn't use it.

Wow, I was also going to order the TRUE Rev.C from FrozenCPU, but this worries me.

send them an email for some kind of compensation (like a partial refund of $10). worst they can say is no, so you don't really lose anything from that. also tell them one forum has been warned about their business conduct and how this could hurt or help them, depending on how they handle/resolve this. that will pressure them to give you a partial refund

If the bags were not ripped open.. I kinda doubt the cooler was a return.

Could be they had a return and one that came in with a damaged box.... quick switcheroo to make a complete, good set and it is ready to be sold.

I probably wouldn't do this if I was actually shipping something, but in a retail store it is completely acceptable if you are using the part for a build for a customer... or even to sell retail with a slight discount.

I know how hard it is to get vendors to replace a product with a smashed box.. been there, done that, got the runaround.. stopped using the vendor because of that and other issues with them.

When I say that they aren't ripped open, I meant that they weren't shredded (like I tend to do to plastic bags when I open them because of my big stupid uncoordinated fingers)... they were nicely opened (not sealed shut), as if they had been cut open with a knife or scissors.

doesn't even really matter if the bags are opened, if the factory seal on the outside of the box is broken, then there's no excuses. would you ever buy an intel or AMD processor from anywhere if you physically saw the seal broken?

Because Fry's hides them in a cage.

Well, I sent an e-mail to support@frozencpu.com and put my phone number at the bottom. Within 5 minutes, I got a call from Mark (apparently the owner/co-owner of the site) who couldn't have sounded more embarrassed or apologetic.

He was willing to ship a second heatsink with a postage-paid return label in the box to return the one I have, or offer me $15 store-credit, or just send me a return label to return it if I didn't want to deal with them again. I have to admit, I was impressed with his response.

He wasn't sure what happened to cause an open-box item to get shipped in the first place. Possibly an in-store return that made its way back to the shelf before getting properly inspected by his RMA department. Either way, he seemed less happy about it than I was.

I am impressed by FrozenCPU's quick response and willingness to work in any way they could to make the customer happy. Its a shame that it had to happen, but I think that I have more respect for their business practices now.

Based on this, I'll probably order from them again in the future.

lol see? told you to email them anyways to ask for some kind of compensation, and it looks like you got more than expected. can you copy/paste the email msg you sent to them? (block out your name and number for course)

never been to a fry's electronics store have you? everything is opened at fry's.. gfx cards, motherboards, cpu's, hard drives.. its pretty much impossible to tell what is new and what was a return unless it says it on the box..

yeah frozenCPU is a good vendor and they take care of their customers.. hell id say they do an even better job then newegg..

FrozenCPU has been good to be as well. Never had any problems with them. Newegg can be a beast some times, but things sometimes work out... Thinkgeek wins the crown though. :)

I ordered one thing from FrozenCPU, a Cogage TRUE spirit a couple weeks ago. It was shipped immediately and packaged well. I actually had a problem with my order and had to call them because I typed in some info wrong and the person I spoke to used my first name and it gave me that mom and pop style feeling. It WAS a little pricey but I feel like I got what I paid for.

I've never had an issue with them and they stock some pretty neat stuff. I go to heatsinkfactory.com to at least price check because they have really competitive prices for things like the TRUE. Glad FrozenCPU treated you with respect and were willing to work with you.

Yeah, they had almost made an enemy of me, but ended up winning me over with customer support.

Good customer support is hard to find these days, and I think its worth an extra couple bucks.
