Troubleshooting a Skylake PC

So I put together a PC with a friend for him last weekend and it has been rocking solidly so far (dual 980ti, 6700k, msi m7 mobo) until now.

Today at one time while he was using it just shut down and wouldn't boot again.

I have only had 40 minutes of time with it personally today so we're gonna try more tomorrow but I wanted to check with you guys if you have any possible ideas of what might be the issue.

------------------------------

The computer powers - the fans spins, including the GPU fans - LEDs light up and HDDs spin.

It does not shut down automatically after a while, it just keeps going.

We have no signal to the monitor, tried dvi, hdmi and in different ports and of what I can see no audio either - so it's hard to tell if we actually get somewhere on startup but to be frank, I'm not even sure BIOS boots up.

I have tried with 1 GPU, different GPUs all together but same issue. Tried to plug a cable into the mobo hdmi/dp ports on the I/O panel but didn't work either.

I also tried the CMOS reset both through removing and replacing the battery as well as the reset button on the I/O panel.

Tried moving the memory sticks around but no luck there either.

So what I haven't tried yet (which I will try to tomorrow) is:

- Plug a monitor into the I/O hdmi/dp ports again but without a graphics card plugged into the PCI-E slot at all (does it matter?)

- Try the BIOS jumper thing (does it make a difference after removing and putting the battery back in as well as the I/O reset button?)

- Removing components one by one to see if I get any beeps (does new mobos even do this thing still with long and short beeps?) - I have yet to try this on GPUs and memory sticks being missing all together but based on the fact that it doesn't work with a different graphics card than the TWO new ones makes it very unlikely that all 3 would die at the same time, including the third random one but memory is quite possible, granted that both sticks actually died (tried 1 by 1 but have not tried with empty slots!).

- Loosen the cpu AIO cooler. I read that if it's too tight, it may cause an issue which seems reasonable but can issues appear after 5 days of successful computer usage?

--------------------------------------

Also, is it possible for a motherboard to be "dead" even if so much of the motherboard actually works (all ports, leds, slots and buttons)?

What is the likelihood of an Intel CPU just dying after 5 days?

Final question, on top of that I am going to try tomorrow, is there anything else worth trying?

Cheers,

What PSU are you using?

Generally, when I see an issue like yours, it's usually related to a defective motherboard or defective PSU.

Will do... can also add that the error code on the mobo "digital clock" is 00 (which has nothing specified in the error code list). It's not d0 or 0d but 00.

Does beep testing work nowadays or has the error display on the mobo replaced that completely?

As long as you have a speaker, the beep should still work.
