Okay thanks, I thought series 8 was going to be just lynx point PCH and Haswell CPU, didn't know they were going to use it with 2011.

Typos I can understand, but for the life of me I cannot find ANY info on a x89 PCH. Is this just you making assumptions that Intel is going to make a chipset called x89 specifically for Ivy Bridge and that it'll feature 10 SATA3 ports?

I was at IDF this year and a number of the intel flacs were talking about it. Also, MSI was talking about a board they will be producing with it for IB, though I don't have any more specifics from them.

Someone did post an announcement about a MB that had six SATA6 Intel ports and it may have been an MSI board but I believe it was an X79.

I said I was incorrect about the manfg but it looks like the MSI board isn't waiting for some X89 to include more than 2 Intel SATA6 ports.

There is something weird on that board though, where are they getting the other 4 6GB SATA ports from the PCH? The asterisk at the end of the extra 4 6GB ports from the X79 points to this:

Looks like they could be SAS ports?

Even so, that should be OK for SATA drives.

The X79 was supposed to have 10 SATA6 ports.....where did they go?
 
You cannot even build a RAID between the SATA2 and SATA3 ports. Or did they change that recently? Its either max. 2x 6Gbps drives or 4x 3Gbps drives.
