Ted,

Thanks, it was in fact the OCZ I was looking at. I have sent the money. Thanks again and Happy Easter.

Matt

Happy easter back!!, that was fast!!! Anyway, I'll ship it out ASAP USPS priority mail with tracking. Im looking in the transaction details page. I alway print and pay my labels on paypal. They arent showing your address. Could you go online and confirm it. It makes it easier to print my labels. It's not a big problem if you cant. But it is easier one click shipping on me.

Thanks again.

Ted

I sent him my address, and received this from him:

My fault Ted, I think because I sent it as a gift it doesn't automatically fill the address field. My confirmed paypal address is:

Yeah your right on the gift. It happened 2 weeks ago and i tried to figure out why someone with 1254 after their name couldnt have a confirmed address. I use Paypal to ship and print labels, Makes it easier on me.

Thanks again

Ted

Item was not shipped did not hear from him for 10 days. I sent him an email via his gmail stating that I did not receive shipping info, nor did I receive any other communication from him. I also stated that $125 was not worth losing your trading rep from and I gave him until Friday 4/16 to hear back from him. He contacted me 4/16 stating that he was just released from the hospital as he was in a car accident. He said he would refund $20 for my trouble and include an SD card as a gift for my troubles. He would ship ram on Sat 4/17. He did not ship on Sat, i received an email from him on the 20th stating that he was again sorry for the delay and it was going out today. He included a paypal screen shot showing tracking info. I received another email on the 21st stating that the first tracking info was incorrect, and included a new tracking number. I received a package today on the 23rd from Vincent Rago, and in this package was an 8gb SD card. No memory. Frankly I am done with this guy. I am taking this as a learning experience but I want all the other honest traders on this forum to not get burned as I have. I have been in contact with raydaddy as well, and seems he is in the same boat as me.

Based on his HEAT and how long he's been on the forums it seems fairly unlikely that he's a scammer, but I guess anything is possible. Hope you get this all sorted out.

Don't ever pay through paypal as gift. You lose any chance you have of getting your money back. If the seller requests it and you really want the item tell him you'll kick in a couple extra dollars to help cover the fees. If he still requests a gift, move on.

i agree with sending payment as a gift. i usually dont do that unless you have exceptional heat. this guy did. while he did communicate with me, he is completely ignoring raydaddy. however as i stated, lesson learned..

its possible that he mixed up his packages....its unusual for someone with 8 years of heat and 11 years on the board to start scamming people.....not impossible, but unusual...

You really shot yourself in the foot with the gift payment, I cant stress that enough.
anyway, I would not give up just yet, try and get back in touch with him and see what happened.....maybe this is all just a big misunderstanding, and things will end well.......if not, my condolences, and I'm sure a lesson has been learned.

I'm a long time trader on here as well, and I hate it when these type of threads show up.

EDIT: I looked a a few other forums he frequents and he has not been active on those either....

well explain how he's not scamming me too then. I bought a 6gb kit from him on 4-7-10 and have not heard one word from him after repeated attempts to contact. he asked me for my address on 4-7 right after i purchased and then vanished. guess he gets off the hook twice huh? this guy is a troll plain and simple. he ripped us both off. I would ahve thought 11 years here and good heat were enough. but he isnt even doing me the favorof lying to me. he just acts like I don't exsist. How can you hate a thread like this? the guy is a scammer!

I absolutely agree with you. Its very unusual for someone with that much reputation built up to start scamming. However, he waited until the last possible day to contact me as I had threatened to expose him as a troll and I said that I would also file a claim with paypal if he didn't respond, however I have no explanation why he would communicate with me only via email and completely ignore raydaddy, and I have no idea why if you are sorry for two week delay why you would not include the ram and only include the sd card, he has yet to provide the $20 refund he promised as well too. I realize the impact of claiming someone is a troll, however I do feel I have been more than patient as well as respectful, I have wished him nothing but best wishes in regards to his car accident took it at face value, but I feel at this point this guy is nothing but empty promises. Because of his time here on the forums as well as his high heat, I feel it necessary to warn fellow traders.

guys a troll plain and simple. he may have a reason that is making him be one but he still is. machewwa at least got lied too. i wasn't even good enough for that.

Whoa....I have nothing to explain to you, I posted my thoughts on the matter, nothing more, nothing less.
I gave a possible explanation for what happened, take it at face value.

I'm not defending him in any way shape or form,so don't take your anger out on me.

I trade here also, and seeing a trade gone bad is not something that I, or anyone wants to see..... so if you cant understand why I hate these threads, I don't know what to tell you.

If you did your homework, you have all the info you need to make this right, if not, there is nothing anyone can do to help you.

also, 5 minutes with Google and I found out that he has sold 24 of these ram kits.....only time will tell how all those sales will end

They're enough 99% of the time which is enough for me. I've been ripped off by newegg more than 1% of the time.

If that his his actual comcast email address on his heat and you have to make a legal issue out of this it should be easy enough. It's not like you don't know who the guy is. Good luck with all of that if it comes to it. I hope not though.

4/27 update

Still not responding to emails. I would say at this point this trader is definitely a buyer beware.

Man that sucks what happens to someone that cheats you like this on forums??

I hate to say it, but lots of heat and a long time on this board mean absolutely nothing right now because times are tough and people may use their good standing to their advantage financially for a few bucks to get by or pay bills because honestly there is no real expectation for repercussions because of bad trading, if they've been here long enough and read enough of these threads they know that all that they're really risking is their board membership, it sucks but so does the economy and desperate people do desperate things...

I will never again pay as a gift (I have a few times and just got lucky I guess), as suggested I would just offer to pay extra to cover any fees if that was the reason for wanting that payment option...

scamming is almost assuredly about to be more prevalent now, some members may think it's time to cash in on all that goodwill they've been building up, it's not right, but shit happens which inevitably leads to more shit happening...

good luck, but this may just become an expensive lesson learned...

I honestly think letting people ask for a gift should be ruled out in here. I know you say "what they do in pm's is their business."

But if you let it happen in pm's then you are shooting yourself in the foot with a loop hole. While you can't control everything in here, I just wished it was a bit more secure on that part.

Yes we all need to look over heatware, and other forums on the seller. But things happen and we sometimes do it to help others out. And like the o.p. he gets shot down trying to be nice and help.

Things do happen in life and stuff happens unexpected too. I feel that if he can send out a sd-card, then he could have sent the ram also. As you don't forget to include the stuff the buyer pays for. But honestly how long does it take to send a pm, email to just let the buyer know what is going?

Just seems more and more are making excuses in this forum as of lately in here. Hopefully he will respond and give you the ram or the money back. But doubtful since it has went on this long.

Good luck and i wish you the best on the outcome. Keep us informed as i like to see how this turns out.

Actually, per the rules of the forum it(paypal as a gift) is not allowed. But in these tough times, I like to help out honest fellow traders by saving them a few bucks if possible, but again, lesson learned and unfortunately I've got to make sure I protect myself in future trades. As always I'm very appreciative of the forum HardOCP provides to computer enthusiasts like myself, and this experience will not prevent me from trading in the future. There is an abundance of fantastic honest traders out there.

Oh and thanks for all the support fellow forum members.

If we have sufficient reason to believe that one member has intentionally ripped off another, we will ban the offending member. That said, it's always 100% your responsibility to protect yourself. You trade here at your own risk. We've provided what we believe to be some good advice, but it's up to you to take steps to ensure you're as protected as possible. Even then, I've seen a few situations where someone did what I would consider adequate due diligence, and still got ripped.

We do also have forum rule zero:

In the instance that we are contacted about any member here being a "bad trader" or a "troll," we reserve the right to turn any and all IP and personal information we have on that member over to any law enforcement authorities and/or any other group or individuals we desire. If you do not agree with this rule, do not trade on our boards.

That's about the extent of any action we can/will take.

I honestly think letting people ask for a gift should be ruled out in here. I know you say "what they do in pm's is their business."

But if you let it happen in pm's then you are shooting yourself in the foot with a loop hole.

Do you think we have the time to sit and read every PM someone sends? Do you want us reading all of your PM's? Actually, as far as I know, the only people who even have the ability are the high level admins with direct access to the forum database. Then what happens if the communication happens via email/IM/telephone/etc...?

The bottom line is that we have zero control over what people do in private. Per our rules, the forum does not condone payment methods that infringe on the TOS of the payment provider. None of us have ever recommended in any way, shape, or form, that someone do otherwise; and I don't appreciate the implication that we're encouraging someone to do so, even in secret. We aren't "letting" anything happen. If you see someone breaking the rules, please report it so we can deal with it.

Edit: you guys should leave heat and adjust later, pretty sure you can edit it.

he definitely looks legit, which is why I wanted to give him till the end of the month to reply. He did mention he was in an car accident, and broke his hip and leg, I just wanted traders to be cautious when trading with him now. Maybe its the added medical expenses that made him do this. I'm not sure.

i find the "oh i just happened to be in a car accident the week i was suppose to ship something" a bunch of BS sometimes. it just seems all too coincidental. i'm not saying it couldn't have happened to this guy, but i've seen those excuses in almost every thread that involves late or non-shipment of something.

Well at this point, with no information from him to contradict any of the above, he's been banned as a bad trader. We've given him over 3 weeks to return, and provide his side.

If anyone gets an update from him, please let myself or one of the other mods know. Doing some checking around online, he seems to have completely fallen off of the web.

well, according to Crosshair's estimate it looks like this guy just cashed in his rep for ~ $3000 (24 x $125), he is definitely a troll, this has been substantially proven in this thread, but one thing you can't say is that he's stupid, some people ruin their rep for pocket change, he hit the motherload of scams, which doesn't make him any less toolish, but makes him smarter than the average tool...

seems like that's a lot of sources of information to piece together facts about this guy though, if they all got together I bet they could piece together enough to find out who he really is...

$3000 scam! I bet that's enough to get the authorities looking for him. That would be a felony charge.

And yet most people didn't leave negative feedback allowing him to scam others. Only 2 negative feedbacks, 1 from XS, 1 from H was left.
