I agree. It's not like anyone here is paying big money to post. For most it's free, unless you joined gen may at $5 or $15. I laid down the $15 spot a year and a half ago, and I can still feed myself, keep a shelter over my head, and pay the electric bill for folding.

Hopefully he is still folding and just changed the team number, but it's stupid either way.

I think somebody's put the cart before the horse here. The [H]orde exists only because Kyle allows it to. I highly doubt that our folding team brings KB networks significantly more income.

Maybe we should start a "Guess Kyle's response" thread. I have a few ideas:
1) no response.
2) "don't let the door hit you on the way out".

I can't say I like having more ads on the pages I see, but I don't think I'm in a position to complain, since this forum is free.

Like someone said somewhere else, there are a lot of communities and forums that have it way worse. At least we don't have to pay to be a part of this place.

Plus, think about it. You have to look at an ad when you want to post something in the forum. You don't like that. So because of that, you're going to stop helping millions of people that this project could help? I (and alot of other people here) fold for a damn good reason: because it helps, and because we've been affected by something that it will help. I hope he comes around....

Should we all stop folding because of the side ad? No because if we didn't no new advancements in medicine will be found. We may have hit a speed bump in the road, should we stop to look under the vehicle, no we don't look down, we keep going down the right road.

People will stop folding, new people will join, it is how teams go on. It is life, live with it each day.

Not a big deal. I'm sure that if he decides not to fold for us he'll still fold. Everyone has their opinion on ads, usually negative, so that reaction isn't totally unexpected. Personally I don't mind ads on [H] or other sites that I want to help support, as for the rest I hate them. Cut him some slack.

First, I forsee #2 if anything...I can't say I totally disagree either, in the end, this is Kyle's baby, his to send to the top of the game or to the gutter on his whim.

As for us bringing KB Networks any income at all....haha! We are bringing Kyle negative income if I'm thinking about this correctly. First, we are using his hardware and bandwidth for the forum here (and actually I believe for Hardfolding.com, though I could be wrong on that point - someone in the know can shine a light on this as they see fit). Second, we aren't sourcing any profit to him (shy of maybe clicking a few of the ads, but since I'm sure we'd be doing that anyway if we were members here....I don't know if that counts). And even if we were, that isn't a result of the F@H project, as that's a non-profit project that yields nothing for donators or their sponsoring teams (except the obvious benefit of the research itself, just saying no money for Kyle or us).

So like I said, I see Kyle quite happily sending the guy out the door with his tail between his legs.

Na, it's kinda two fold. 1. UD just ain't my thing. 2. I hate running split programs/user names. It's refreshing for me to run all my boxen under my name under one program. It's not realistic for me to run UD on many of my boxen.

I did a little something, with a little something more to come. I wanted to see how things all panned out together.

Hey, after seeing what a hash the pages looked like (and still do, to a degree) this morning around 6am, and some of the "official" first responses in the Feedback area, my reaction was pretty much what Tower7 did. Yeah, the Forum is free, but what the bloody hell was that? It was pretty much illegible then, and the .sig blocks are still illegible now. Try reading that font on a 21" screen at 1600x1200...

Fortunately, I had to go to work and not post til much later.

So, if I read Kyle's final post in here correctly, I have to pay for a Genmay account to file a bitch about the new layout? Fair enough in one train of thought, a "What the hell, where was the frelling warning?!?" for another.

I fold for the science, I also fold for for the team I fell in with, and at the scale I've been folding at, what I've put out is a chunk of change I feel passes for dues. I'm not asking for a free Genmay pass, but a little courtesy (as in giving us a preview of the new layout, or at least a couple day's warning!) would have gone a long way. I'm an old man (compared to the majority of ya!), and I don't care for sudden changes.

Having bitched, I shall now fold on.

Heh, you read kyles last post wrong. He linked to genmay.com... thats not part of [H]. In fact, as I understand the history, they dont like us. I am sure my info isn't dead on, as I was not around way back when, but heres waht I know and think is right.

General Mayham was a forum in [H]. It got closed. Lots of poeple left to form GenMay. They hold a grudge towards [H] for having closed General Mayhem. Now thats its open again, they still dont like us. Kyle was more or less telling him if he wants to bitch, do it on a forum where people will be ok with it, because he doesnt want to hear it. Trust me, even if you pay for General Mayhem, he ain't gunna let you bitch on the design. Read some of the other threads, he was open to constructive critism on the layout... not people whining and demanding change, saying they will boycott, ect, ect, ect. If you were civil, so was he. I can't blame him for getting pissy with others though with how many people went apeshit over the change.

However, thats really neather here nor there... this thread isnt about debating the layout, so I will leave it at that. If you want to discuss further though, my PM box is always open

Sorry about the slow reply, I don't visit this sub forum as much as I used to.

To be honest with you, the new ad (or will it be 2 new ads soon? That white thing is scary) is the least of my worries.

No, its just that I followed that thread in the forum feedback section, and it just made me sad on two reasons. After all the things peole said, and people just kept spitting out the same concept, only worded differently, I was expecting kyle to address it there. He didn't. I'm sure he had is reasons, but I found it strange. (I know now that he had someone reprogram the layout of the forum, for better or for worse i'll leave up to you). It woudl have been nice to me to hear him say that he would address the issue (which he did, just didn't tell us).

But the one thing that stuck with me, was his (and other's for that matter) view on rule #23. I think we all know of what I speak. The rule that must-not-be-named. So anyway, I started looking at this whole situation from as many diffrent perspectives as I could think of. New people, people who have been here a while, those who see advertising as bad, those who view it as good, kyles views.
Well, needless to say, after my thinking, I came up with the general impression that kyle supports the sponsors over the general forum public. Whether out of necessity or pure want I don't know, only kyle knows.

So, in the end, this general feeling can be dangerous. It paralles in so many ways to what dell has been doing. Its like kyle wants to grow this hard stuff, and is willing to alienate us in the process to see that this hard stuff does grow.

I won't stop folding for a cure anytime soon, although I'm so very tempted to change all my boxen from #33 to 0 or something else.

That thread in the forum feedback section did'nt leave a good taste in my mouth, that's all. You guys are still funny as ever .
