The screen on this thing is insane. There is no point to using mobile sites anymore!

touchpro2.png

Loads in under two seconds with Opera 9.7 with turbo enabled. 800x480 resolution FTMFW, I can't get over how much better this is than 320x240.

And check this out; if I disable Turbo mode:

Notice the flash ad?

Yeah, this phone is really amazing. It completely redefines what what a smartphone screen should be.

I think this was a sleeper device. People have been writing of WinMo and this this thing comes out. Makes a lot of prognosticators look a little dumb.

If I were Apple and Google I start worrying a little about now.

BTW, I don't think that that is a flash ad.

Not with the Opera browser. Skyfire works pretty well with flash sites but the newest version of Skyfire is blocked from Hulu. That's on the Hulu side. But there's plenty of other flash content out there.

So with flash content YMMV on this device but that's just the state of flash in the mobile world from a political and not technical stance.

I'm loving my TP2, but I could not stand Opera 9.7. The soft keyboard kept popping up. IIRC, the zoom bar didn't work either.

Yeah, the built in Opera is MUCH better. We also are going to get the WinMo 6.5 upgrade in short order, I would think not too long after 6.5 comes out officially on October 6 as phones similar to the TP2 will be launching with 6.5 and the TP2 itself is supposed to launch on US Cellular with 6.5 on it.

heatlesssun, when 6.5 comes out, will I have to uninstall all of my 6.1 hacks/tweaks before upgrading or will it wipe out the machine like a hard reset?

Flash absolutely works with Opera 9.7, just use the fixoperaflash tweak at xda developers.

As I said before, when I get the chance I'll start a thread with all of the TP2 tweaks. I'm sorry I've been so slow responding to your pm :( It's been a crazy week -I've driven 2200 miles going to weddings and concerts, and have missed 3 days of classes.

Thanks no problem. I meant the built in Opera Browser, I need to Opera 9.7 setup.

Yeah, its going to wipe everything in main storage. Since its a new OS you'll probably want to check it out before tweaking it much anyway.

I just ordered mine today, I am sooooo giddy. :D I loved my Touch Pro but that bigger screen is a must have (along with a couple other nice things). I use my phone all day every day for work, and WinMo and it's exchange/office support has really come through for me. Today I was in a datacenter where aircard for my laptop wouldn't get a signal, so I was downloading all the attachment diagrams I needed (pdf, etc) via e-mail since my phone signal was still strong enough (both VZ, kinda funny) and just reading them off my 640x480 TP as I worked. Then I was like wtf and remembered I could tether so I used my phone to give teh internets to my laptop. I can't wait to improve on an already great work device.

Congrats! You will love this phone, there's simply nothing quite like it for now. Yes, that screen with the Opera web browser is simply the best web browsing experience on ANY phone at the moment, including the iPhone. And if you are lucky enough to be on Verizon's network boy is it cool.

And for only $169!

So since I now consider this the new Touch Pro 2 thread, who knows a good case for one?

The built in Opera has a turbo mode. Just gotta flip the switch. Looks just like the screenshot you posted of 9.7 Turbo. Don't know if its as fast and may have bugs. I'm posting on my TP2 right know. Great device (phone doesn't cut it)!!

What's the battery life like on the TP2?

It's WAY better than any previous HTC phone I've had, this TP2 is #4. I was on a call the other day that was almost 3 hours long using my bluetooth earbud and from a full charge I only went down to 40%. That seems pretty excellent to me.

Guys, when you plug in your TP2, does the LED still blink when you get an E-mail or any other notification? Seems like the charging status LED (solid green or red) gets priority over the blinking LED for notifications.

This is the only problem I have with this phone. I can't tell if I have E-mail when it's charging unless I turn on the screen or unplug it. When unplugged, the LED starts blinking immediately.

Truly the greatest phone I have ever owned or seen. I would certainly plug checking out the cooked rom support for this phone on XDAdevelopers. I am running a build made by NRG, a long time rom chef, and it beats the snot out of the stock rom... and the stock rom was pretty good IMO.

Do you own a 3GS or 3rd Gen touch? Does Verizon have this thing in stores yet?

I do not own an iPhone but I've played with the newest iPhones and the thing about this phone and web browsing is that 800x480 screen. Things that aren't crisp and sharp on an iPhone ARE on this phone.

This phone should be showing up in stores about now. This is the best screen on any phone out there right now. Remember, the TP2 has 2.5 times the resolution of the iPhone at about the same screen size.

I'll check my local VZW store later. I never really know if a device will work for me unless I've had it in my grubby hands for at least a few days. I do have an upgrade available to me, but I'm really trying to wait it out and see how the Sholes looks. It fixes my primary concerns about this phone being a 5mp shooter with a capacitive screen and of course android 2.0 along with better CPU/GPU. Aargh! I hate the waiting!

How does the sound quality compare with the Zune HD? Is it a viable alternative for a listening station like the touch?

Its order only as far as I know, I called in a couple stores and asked. If you use the code freeovernt its free overnight which isn't too shabby. And as mentioned, the iphone has a nice screen size, but it lacks in resolution and you just can't compare.

The TP2 is a great media player, personally it think its on par with Zune HD in audio play back, but the Zune HD plays video back better, but then at less than half the resolution no real suprise.

The Sholes looks like an awesome device, 854x480 resolution on a 3.7" screen, a bit better than the TP2 and a capacitive touch screen. WinMo won't see capacitive touch until next year. If the TP2 hadn't proven to be as nice as it was I would have definitely thought about this device but WinMo is still a bit better supported than Andriod.

But come next its pretty much take every phone currently out and throw them in the garbage, they are about to make a SERIOUS leap in power over the next year.

But I couldn't be happier overall with TP2. It is a first class business phone with solid media capabilities and an awesome speakerphone.

Yeah, that's what I'm seeing too. It looks like Verizon may finally be opening up.

This is my biggest concern, I'd buy it tomorrow if they actually carried it in the store. I can't remember a time where a phone was out for three weeks but still not in store.

Just watched an entire episode of family guy with the phone driving my Beyerdynamic DT770 80ohm headphones and the battery only went down from 51% to 47! And it's been unplugged since 7AM.

The Touch Pro was never available in stores, I still don't think it is.

The Touch Pro's were definitely available in some stores, I was with my friend when he bought one.

I've got a bunch more screenshots I'll be posting shortly...I've got the phone skinned pretty nice, I've been playing around with themes all day.

I just ordered a TP2 to replace my 2 1/2 year old samsung sch u740.

Said out of stock online for my residential account, and through my company's corporate account... but a phone call this morning got me 1 of the 175 that were available. im excited. should be here monday or tuesday.

im browsing through the xda dev forums right now. are there are particular tweaks/hacks or sections for roms that i should be looking at in particular?

NO.. I get an upgrade Monday and very excited by this phone.. REALLY hope they still have a few.. I have an old LG VX8350.. It did it's job.. I was curious if anyone put Raphael (Android) on this phone with success..

Not sure what version you're getting, but the Sprint/Verizon versions haven't been unlocked yet with hard SPLs so no custom ROMs yet. One of the premier ROM chefs (No2chem) has finally gotten a Sprint TP2, so expect some progress towards custom WM6.5 ROMs soon.

Here are the tweak lists I used:
