As the title says I am a total newbie to folding. I read the faqs, installed the clients, set up on Team 33, even signed up on hardfolding. I am using the graphical clients cause I like to monitor them, and couldnt seem to get the console and EM to work quite right. I have 3 PCs folding right now, a Athlon 64 3000+, an Intel P4 2.4 (no hyperthreading though, dammit) and a PIII 800 laptop. The AMD and Intel boxen seem to be saying about 40 or so hours for a WU, and the laptop is saying 8 days. Dont know if that sounds right or not, and havent been able to fathom out the whole points, PPD and such yet. But what the hell, its not like I use my PCs for much more than internet and Everquest, so I have cycles to spare.

Any tips, walkthroughs, or (yes I am lazy) executable one shot installer/configs would be greatly appreciated!

I use nothing but the graphical client. I know that I am in the minority here, but I have my reasons.

Give it some time and you will finish some WUs (work units).

The console client is better as the graphical one can sometimes glitch game that run under OpenGlide.
As long as your boxen are on a LAN and you have set the shares right, then EMIII should have no problem trackig all three clients.

Your times look about right depending on what protiens you are crunching

Got the same proteins on all 3 at the moment, p3040_supervillin-03 with 5000 frames. Getting around 35 s/frame.
 
I would also suggest using the console client... and then using Electron Microscope to monitor them.
 
OK Set up the console client, but every time I run EM and look at that tmpFAHlog, it shows as anonymous not as my user. Something is set up wrong somewhere but I dont know where

Never mind, I got it straightened out
 
Thanks! Had a WU 1/3 done and lost that redoing things, but what the hell I guess. Now just trying to get EM III squared away, doesnt seem to be showing any progress whatsoever, gonna give it a few hours and see what it says. Been reading the thread on the borg kit, and that looks like something I wish I had known about before I started.

True. I've got EMIII monitoring three clients on my home lan without a problem. I like the fact that it tells you how much points each one is worth.:cool:

I am assuming that it wont show points till it has completed the first WU? Cause mine dont.

I just got up and running... got two console clients running on my PC and monitoring with EmIII
 
My P3 laptop that is basically doing nothing but folding is showing about 8 days to get a WU done. Would blowing away windows and going to linux make a difference? Of course, thats providing that I can linux to recognize my ethernet on it.

Suggestions?
 
You really won't get more than 40-50ppd out of that P3. Probably not worth the money you'll spend on electricity.
 
First 2 WU done! Now to wait for [H]ardfolding to update and I can try to puzzle out how to make my badge
