Is it worth the 20 dollars? I've heard that it is super fun, but I am wondering what you guys think about it!

Check out the forums over at http://www.torchlightgame.com

The editor is out and there's already a bunch of mods, and lots in the works as well. The editor is pretty powerful, and the game itself is fun. I recommend TorchCam so you can zoom out a bit more.

I'm going to get it this weekend. It looks really good and the price is right.

How's the multiplayer? The thing that makes D2 still popular till this day is the items/trading.

Ya, that made me sad too. No MP. :(

Ive been playing it. The game would honestly need to be completely redone if they added multiplayer. The game runs fairly "choppily". They got a lot of optimizing to do in it. The way some stuff works too, just wouldnt work if it were multiplayer either.

This is the reason they are making the torchlight mmorpg.

Not choppy at all for me, even with forced 16xSSAA. LOVED IT!! BUY BUY BUY! :)

I would imagine there's some issue with your installation/system if things are choppy, unless you're playing on REALLY outdated hardware.

To me, Torchlight is merely OK. Without multiplayer, I just don't really care much about the loot I find -- yes it is indeed cool to find a better weapon/armor/necklace/etc. but I just don't have the same drive as I did with Diablo II. Without that x-factor, loot doesn't mean anything to me. It's the same issue I ran into with Borderlands, I just don't care when the multiplayer is so easily hacked (client side storage of character info).

Torchlight is a great way to get your Diablo fix until Diablo 3.

My wife even plays!

This looks like it was built behind the Fate engine that ran on wild tangent. Look up the game fate (there where 3 of them most recent came out in the last few months) and these games look exactly the same. The only difference I see between them is there are 3 hero's available instead of 1. other then that the graphics, gameplay, mechanics, etc look exactly the same. Even the opening menu, and options menu are shared between games. They are even the same size... oh fishing holes.... And the list goes on and on.

for 20 bucks, I gotta say if you love RPG's then yea, this game is good. However, I am very upset they didnt make this multiplayer... Diablo was 2 player, and thats what made it so fun, so to see this game single player only, I am very disapointed.

No. The game has some problems. You can see it discussed in the torchlight forum.

I dont think they have narrowed it down yet. Some people it seems to be fine and others it gets kinda bad. Its when mobs of monsters spawn or when there is a lot going on. The game runs fine, then bam just 1 or 2 monsters spawn sometimes, and it gets bad. The game just seems to get fairly choppy for some people. There are some people who its unplayable for, and they have 4ghz C2D's and 4gb memory with fast video cards...

I have a Q9550 at 3,4GHz with 8GB of RAM and a HD5850 and even for me it slows down to 30fps (or less) at times.

There is some chop, especially with the pygmies, but it is not a game-breaker. Buy it without hesitation!!!

Love the game. Girlfriend who doesn't ever game on PC and rarely on console was hooked on this game, effectively hogging my Steam account for a good couple weeks.

The "infinite" dungeon gets old, but it's fun to go through the game again with different classes (for once! I rarely if ever replay games) and builds. Would be a dream to have D3 get modded to have cute graphics like Torchlight so the GF will be enticed to play (Diablo = too gory).

And do yourself a favor and play this on Very Hard. Even on Hard, the recommended setting for people who have played Diablo, it's too easy.

OK, so it's a bug. Same difference.

I got the demo thanks to this thread, My first thoughts were it looks like a Diablo style of game w/ graphics that remind me of the World of Warcraft feel to them. Not really sure if I like this game or not, guess I will play it a little longer and get use to it a little longer and see then if its worth it or not to get it.

If you liked Diablo single player you'll like Torchlight. I've been playing it off and on but the multiplayer aspect of Diablo and D2 is what sold me on those, if you are really into the mp side you might not like it as much.

Torchlight has been sucking away all my free time, leaving TF2 and L4D2 orphaned on my HDD. I've never considered myself a huge fan of Diablo-style games, but Torchlight has a lot of polish and is a big leap up from D2 and Dungeon Siege. (I'm honestly wondering if I'll even buy Diablo III now.)

The SP-only doesn't bother me. Sometimes I need to turn off all those shrill voices. But I'm looking forward to the MP/MMO when it's added.

I share in your enthusiasm of the game for sure, but I dont see how you could say "I'm honestly wondering if I'll even buy Diablo III now." D3 will be epic(hopefully). Online games usually are vastly superior to single only games. D3 will hopefully be a whole new beast. Diablo style games are all about online coop, grinding, item finding, and trading. This torchlight just doesnt have that.

In 2015!

Since it is SP only I have been playing on Hardcore mode. Its a lot fun, a lot more challenging and exciting. I have lost a few characters but it doesn't really matter to me...

I don't think it needs multiplayer that badly, it's a great game nevertheless.

Loved Diablo2, downloading the demo now.. not sure how it will be (I haven't like SP games much..) but it should be a treat for a bit regardless.

Any graphics mod for it yet? I want dark and dingy and not bright girly colours.

Just adjust your monitors contrast/brightness? Same trick works with D3, I guarantee you.

TBH Torchlight's art style is like WoW's -- it's oversized, cartoony. That actually did turn me off a bit...maybe because I was expecting a more stereotypical Diablo type art style.

Hopefully D3's color scheme doesn't make things feel too similar to Torchlight..

Torchlight has reminded me how much I missed action-RPGs. (I haven't really played since Dungeon Siege- seven years ago) Torchlight is great fun and already has a HUGE mod community that will keep it going until the new Torchlight MMO launches. (separate game, not an add-on) And it looks certain that's going to go live long before the time Diablo 3 actually ships.

I don't doubt that D3 will be highly polished. It may even be "epic." But I may not want it as much when it finally does comes around.

People who complain about a deliberate choice in art style (ie. "cartoony") piss me off. What's the big deal? Just play a good game.

Edit: ESPECIALLY the foaming at the mouth Diablo 3 fans who are secretly heliophobic. The game will be awesome sans sunlight or not.

I'm not complaining about it, just that it did turn me off a bit; the colors aren't a big deal, more the cartoon character look. It's an opinion.

I agree D3 will certainly rock (I'm not bothered by the new color scheme, only the oversized "cartoon" character look), but I think something will be lost in translation if they go the WoW route. Color me skeptical.

I don't get the issue people have with WoW's style. It works and that's what Blizzard has been good at doing time and time again. They make amazing games that play well enough on fairly legacy hardware. Also, I don't know when the last time anyone making the cartoon claims actually last saw a cartoon but the characters don't exactly look like cartoon characters. I mean I'm fairly certain Diablo 2 wasn't exactly realistic. Now, I'll meet you half-way here and agree with you on the oversized problem Torchlight has. For instance the tooltips and fonts, they're enormous. I don't know why they had to use such a handicapped method of displaying things and for using that lame "samurai-ninja" font that it utilizes on the tooltips but for what it's all worth, it works and it's still really fun.

Where do you buy scrolls of identify in Torchlight? I just started playing and have a bunch of unidentified items to sell.

I agree, they usually scale well to older hardware, but that wasn't the topic. I didn't mean either that D3's characters are cartoons, just that the element that bothered me in Torchlight are not the colors, but the cartoon-type characters. I'm fine with how D3 is going, but Blizzard's games certainly have changed dramatically over the course of development previously, so I'm going to reserve judgement until I get to play....in 2012 or something. Given what D1 and D2 looked like, I just hope they don't wow-ify things.
