hi...i got my comp working, but the cpu is running at 57C....the dude at the comp store said that if i try installing xp i fry my CPU...he said to ad thermal paste....how do you take heatsink off(i already have thermal paste on there) to add more....what do you guys think i should do :confused: ....heres what i have

Let it run for a while and see if it helps, your thermal paste needs time to set before it works very well.
 
Yeah that aint too hot!
I have a thunderbird CPU that had running at 70c and i never fried it.
I dont think that installing XP would heat up anything.
The guy was probley talking out his ass.
If there is thermal paste on there you probley dont need more.

It might be a problem with your case circulation!
You should just get a new heatsink!!!!

if i want to get a new heatsink how do i take off the one thats on thier :confused:

that guy told you a line of shit, ive used pcs without thermal paste and they still run fine at around the same temperature. word of advice, dont listen to what a sales clerk tells you, he usualy doesnt know what the fuck hes talking about.
 
only 27 cfm on that cpu fan? thats pathetic, mine has from 27-87cfm if i turn the fan speed up all the way, i generaly keep it around 45-50 kool gadget i baught at microcenter shows fan cfm, dunno if they still carry them though. 2400+ amd processors dont run very hot anyway, so you should be fine even without the thermal paste, artic silver is one of the best out there.
 
I left it running for about 15 min and it got to 61C

think im going to get a nother heatsink

anybody know any tutorials to take the thermal paste off of my heatsink so i can take it of the proc.

Did you take the Thermal Interface Material off the bottom of the heatsink before applying Arctic Silver to the processor? I'm assuming there is a TIM on it from the picture because of the pink square it shows. You will need to remove that and anything underneath if that is just a protective piece on the heatsink and not a TIM. If that piece or the TIM is on there, it would explain why your temps are so high. You don't want anything abut the Arctic Silver between the CPU die and the heatsink.

You will probably need to remove the heatsink, use isopropyl alcohol to clean off anything on the CPU die and the bottom of the heatsink and then reapply the Arctic Silver according to the instructions on Arctic Silver's website. After doing that, remount the heatsink and your temps will probably drop.

I doubt that heatsink is the best thing around, but it should probably cool better than the temps you are currently getting unless it's really hot in the room.
